A method of folding a sheet of packing material, having an extraction opening, about a group of cigarettes; the method includes the steps of: bringing a first end wall of the group of cigarettes into contact with the flat sheet of packing material, so that the major transverse edges of the group of cigarettes are parallel to the short sides of the sheet of packing material, and the minor transverse edges of the group of cigarettes are parallel to the long sides of the sheet of packing material; folding the sheet of packing material into a U about the major transverse edges of the first end wall, so that the sheet of packing material covers both the major lateral walls of the group of cigarettes completely; folding the sheet of packing material onto a second end wall of the group of cigarettes; and folding the sheet of packing material onto the minor lateral walls of the group of cigarettes; the first end wall of the group of cigarettes is positioned asymmetrically with respect to the sheet of packing material, so that the first end wall of the group of cigarettes is closer to the short side of the sheet of packing material opposite the extraction opening, and is further from the short side of the sheet of packing material located close to the extraction opening.

A machine for packing cigarettes, having a group-forming device for forming a group of cigarettes, and a conveyor for feeding the group along a given path; the group-forming device has a number of seats, each for housing a respective subgroup of cigarettes; the subgroups are pushed, in use, through respective insertion channels tapering towards the conveyor, into a pocket of the conveyor to define the group of cigarettes; and the pocket has a substantially triangular cross section parallel to the path.

A method and unit for folding coupons on a packing machine, whereby the coupons are fed to at least one folding station having two counter-rotating folding rollers, and at least one locating member located at one end of a feed path of the coupons extending over the two folding rollers; the operating speed of the folding station is determined cyclically, and, as a function of the operating speed of the folding station, the position of the locating member along the feed path of the coupons is adjusted during normal operation of the folding station.

A spray gluing unit in a machine for wrapping products advancing along a pass line comprises a gluer equipped with a nozzle having an outlet from which adhesive is directed onto a wrapping material enveloping the products, and a cleaning station equipped with a first movable member carrying a scraper blade and a wetting pad to which silicone oil is supplied; the scraper blade and the wetting pad are designed to interact with a flat surface of the gluer and with an end face of the outlet, occupying substantially the same plane, so as to remove any residual adhesive from the gluer and keep the outlet moistened.

The invention relates to a spray gumming unit where, during stops in gumming operations, a shutter element for the ejectors of spray gummers moves away from and towards the ejectors between an ejectors closed position in which a pad fixed to an end of the shutter element is in contact with the ejectors and an ejectors open position in which a nebulized liquid substance is sprayed on the pad to wet and/or clean the pad itself.

In a method and unit for feeding, in a product wrapping machine, a continuous band of wrapping material, the surface of which is pre-impregnated with an aromatizing substance, the band is unwound from a reel of wrapping material and is fed, along a given path, to a cutting station where the band is cut into lengths, each defining a sheet of wrapping material for a relative product; along the path there is a device for cleaning the band, designed to remove the aromatizing substance from a given portion of the band.
