Ink compositions

An ink composition comprised of a colorant and a vehicle component, and which vehicle component is comprised of the condensation product of an organic acid and an amino alcohol.

Oxazoline hot melt ink compositions

An aqueous ink jet ink composition comprising pigment, water, and an (A.sub.n -B.sub.m) block copolymer wherein n represents the degree of polymerization of A and m represents the degree of polymerization of B, wherein A is styrene, and B is acrylic acid.

An ink composition comprised of a polyesterified-dye (I) or polyurethane-dye (II) with a viscosity of from about 3 centipoise to about 20 centipoise at a temperature of from about 125.degree. C. to about 165.degree. C. and represented by the formulas ##STR1## wherein A is an organic chromophore, Y is an oxyalkylene or poly(oxyalkylene), R is an arylene or alkylene, n represents the number of repeating segments, and is an integer of from about 2 to about 50, and p represents the number of chains per chromophore and is an integer of from about 1 to about 6.

An ink composition comprised of a colorant and a vehicle of a poly(alkylene oxide)-alkylate (I), a poly(alkylene oxide)-dialkylate (II), a polyoxa-alkanoate ester (III), or a polyoxa-alkanedioate diester (IV), and which ink possesses a viscosity of from about 1 centipoise to about 15 centipoise at a temperature of from about 125.degree. C. to about 165.degree. C., and which vehicle is of the formulas ##STR1## wherein R is alkyl, R' is an alkylene, or arylene, and n is an integer of from about 2 to about 20.

Acoustic ink compositions

An ink composition comprised of a colorant and an imide or bisimide with a viscosity of from about 1 centipoise to about 10 centipoise at a temperature of from about 125.degree. C. to about 180.degree. C., and which imide or bisimide is of the Formulas I or II, respectively: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbon of from about 2 to about 50 carbon atoms; R' is an alkylene hydrocarbon or a polyalkyleneoxide, each with from about 2 to about 30 carbon atoms; and X is an arylene of from 6 to about 24 carbon atoms, or an alkylene of from about 2 to about 10 carbon atoms.

An ink composition comprised of a colorant and a bisamide with a viscosity of from about 1 centipoise to about 20 centipoise at a temperature of from about 125.degree. C. to about 185.degree. C., and which bisamide is of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl of from about 2 to about 30 carbon atoms or aryl; R' is an alkylene with from about 2 to about 30 carbon atoms, or R' is a polyalkyleneoxide with from about 2 to about 30 carbon atoms.

Hot melt ink compositions

A toner composition includes a styrene/n-butyl acrylate copolymer resin having a number average molecular weight of less than about 5,000, a weight average molecular weight of from about 10,000 to about 40,000 and a molecular weight distribution of greater than 6 and provides excellent gloss and high fix properties at a low fusing temperature.

Simultaneous control of the molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution in the production of toner resins can be accomplished by using a starve fed emulsion polymerization process, which includes: selecting a desired molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the polymer resin; determining a starve fed fraction to achieve the desired molecular weight and molecular weight distribution; and charging a reaction vessel with a chain transfer agent and a first monomer emulsion, and polymerizing monomer in the first monomer emulsion while simultaneously adding to the reaction vessel additional monomer, in the form of a second monomer emulsion, and additional chain transfer agent. The resins thus produced may be used in dry toners, liquid developers and inks suitable, for example, for ink jet applications.

Starve fed emulsion polymerization process

Fast drying ink compositions contain a colorant, a dye, water and a cosolvent. Some of the ink compositions dry in less than about 1 second and have a viscosity of between about 1.6 and about 2.5 centipoise and a specified surface tension. Some of the ink compositions contain specified cosolvents, preferably a mixture of diethylene glycol monobutyl ether and glycerol.

Ink for ink jet printing

An ink composition, preferably for ink jet printing, contains a liquid carrier, a colorant, and a polyalkyleneimine/alkylene oxide block copolymer, preferably polyethyleneimine/propylene oxide/ethylene oxide block copolymer, and/or a primary or secondary polyoxyalkylene amine.

An ink composition which is especially useful for ink jet printing contains a colorant, a liquid carrier and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of meso-erythritol, RC(CH.sub.2 OH).sub.3 and salts thereof, wherein R is a member selected from the group consisting of NH.sub.2 and alkyl.
