Hybrid spray foams utilize a urethane reactant, a crosslinker, and an (optional) epoxy and/or acrylic resin along with a blowing agent and rheology modifier to produce a quick-setting foam that remains in place until the foam forms and cures. The urethane reactant may be formed as an adduct with or without the use of isocyanate chemistry. In some embodiments, the polyurethane oligomer is made by reacting cyclocarbonates and di- or polyamines, while in other embodiments the polyurethane backbone employs the use of commercially available capped or blocked urethane oligomers made by any method. The oligomers contain reactive groups, typically at the oligomer ends, that crosslink with crosslinkers or with acrylic or epoxy resins to form hybrid polyurethane foams. Foams may also contain a plasticizer, and/or a surfactant as well as other optional additives. Methods of making such foams are also provided.

Hybrid polyurethane spray foams made with urethane prepolymers and rheology modifiers

The general inventive concepts relate to unbonded loose-fill fiberglass compositions useful for insulation. The compositions demonstrate high hydrolytic stability. In certain instances, this is accomplished by application of a surface modifier. In certain embodiments, the modifying agent is prepared by dilution and hydrolysis of a silane at a high solid content (i.e., hydrolysis at 25% to 60% solid).

Highly hydrolytically stable loose-fill insulation

Foams for filling cavities and crevasses and for forming foamed products are provided. The latex foam may include an A-side containing a functionalized latex and a B-side that contains a crosslinking agent and optionally a non-functionalized latex. The A- and/or B-side contain a blowing agent package or components forming the blowing agent package. The blowing agent package may be the combination of two or more chemicals that when mixed together form a gas or a chemical compound that, when activated by heat or light, forms a gas. In an alternate embodiment, the latex foam includes a functionalized latex, an acid, and an encapsulated crosslinking agent and base. Alternatively, the spray latex foam may include a functionalized latex, a crosslinking agent, and an encapsulated dry acid and dry base. The encapsulating agent may be a protective, non-reactive shell that can be broken or melted at the time of application.

Room temperature crosslinked foam

Low rise, user friendly latex foams for sealing insulative cavities of a building are provided. The foams may be applied to the interface of the sheathing and the studs within the insulative cavities to reduce air leaks. The latex foams may also be applied to the face of the studs to obtain an additional seal against air infiltration. The foam can be used to affix fiberglass batts, batt flanges, and vapor barriers to the framing without mechanical fasteners. A tackifier may be added to impart an adhesive quality to the foam. The tacky nature of the foam permits the drywall or vapor barrier to be repositioned without damage. Drywall is held onto the face of the studs by the tacky foam while mechanical fasteners are inserted to permanently affix the drywall to the framing. The compressive nature of the foam permits drywall to be attached without significant bowing or detachment.

An insulated cavity is provided. The insulated cavity includes a layer of foam material positioned over cracks and around penetrations occurring in portions of the cavity. A layer of insulative material is positioned in contact with the layer of foam material. The layer of insulative material is a mixture of foam material and loosefill insulation material.

Apparatus and methods for application of foam and foam/loosefill insulation systems

One- and two-part spray non-isocyanate foams that include an amide-based oligomer containing pendant carboxylic acid and a polyfunctional aziridine crosslinking agent is provided. The amide oligomer typically contains urea links, urethane links or both groups. Additionally, the foams may include one or more plasticizer, a non-functionalized resin, a surfactant, and/or a thickening agent or rheology modifier. The amide oligomer does not contain any isocyanate groups, and, as a result, there are no free isocyanate moieties generated during formation of the foam that may be potentially hazardous to workers installing the foam. The presence of the urethane segments on the oligomer permits for the generation of a polyurethane foam without the drawbacks of conventional polyurethane foams. The foams may be used to fill cavities, cracks, gaps and crevices, such as around windows and doors, and may also be used in flash and batt systems.
