The present invention relates to a voice alarm device which forms part of a fire alarm system loop. Upon detection of a fire, a control panel instructs appropriate voice alarm devices to retrieve relevant audio from local storage and output the audio via a local speaker.

Voice alarm device

A voice alarm notification device of a fire alarm system, comprising: a network port for receiving an alarm notification signal; an audio file library in which the audio files include audio voice message files; a speaker; a processor unit connected to the network port for processing an alarm notification signal and for selecting one of the audio files from the library to be played through the speaker; and a Bluetooth module for establishing a Bluetooth communication link to the voice alarm notification device, via which link an audio voice file can be received. The device is arranged to add the audio voice file received via the Bluetooth communication link to the library so as to be available for selection by the processor unit when it receives an alarm notification signal.

Voice alarm notification device

The system includes an active unit, such as a detector unit, which has a processor, a network port for connection to a central control unit, and an optical data input port. The processor is arranged to enable the optical data input port on receipt of an enable signal received by the active unit from the central control unit via a network.

Detector system

The detector has a first optical smoke detector having a first smoke detector light source arranged for emitting a first beam of light and a first scattered light sensor positioned to detect light from the first beam which is scattered by smoke present within a detection zone; a second optical smoke detector having a second smoke detector light source arranged for emitting a second beam of light and a second scattered light sensor positioned to detect light from the second beam which is scattered by smoke present within the detection zone; and an object proximity detector to detect an object in the detection zone.

A fire detector system comprises a fire detector unit; a sensor disposed in the fire detector unit and arranged to detect the characteristics of a fire and to generate an output signal indicative of the characteristics detected by the sensor; and a processor arranged to receive the output signal from the sensor and to generate afire alarm signal when the output signal exceeds an alarm point threshold; wherein the system is arranged to change the alarm point threshold over time to compensate for drift in the response of the detector unit; wherein the fire detector unit includes a first sensitivity mode with a first drift compensation limit and a second sensitivity mode with a second drift compensation limit, the second sensitivity mode being more sensitive than the first; and wherein, as the first alarm point threshold in the first sensitivity mode is approached or reached, the mode of the system is changed to the second sensitivity mode.

An isolator circuit () for a unit of a safety system () includes a power control line () connectable to a first loop of a safety system and a power connection () connectable to a second loop of the safety system. A switch () is connected to the power control line (), and the switch has a closed configuration and an open configuration. A controller () controls the configuration of the switch (). If a voltage across the circuit () from the power connection () to the power control line () falls below a predetermined level, the controller () opens the switch (), thereby causing a disconnection to occur in the first loop.

A nodal system () includes a unit (D) having a memory () and an optical data receiver (), and a common control unit () in communication with the unit. A method of commissioning the system comprises the steps of activating the optical data receiver on the unit, and transmitting an optical data signal to the unit, thereby commissioning the unit.

Safety system

A mounting unit () for mounting an electrical component () to a panel has a first member () arranged to engage a first side of said panel and a second member () arranged to engage the first member and a second, opposite side of said panel, so as to secure the first and second members to opposite sides of the panel through a hole in the panel. The first and second members define a space for receiving the electrical component. The mounting unit is particularly suitable for mounting the electrical component to a ceiling tile.
