Techniques discussed herein can facilitate power management at a User Equipment (UE) via selection of a power management stage based on a current power status. One example aspect is a UE comprising one or more processors configured to: monitor a temperature of the UE via one or more temperature sensors and a power usage of the UE; determine a power status of the UE based at least in part on the temperature of the UE and the power usage of the UE; select, based at least in part on the determined power status, a power management stage of a plurality of power management stages; and implement one or more power management techniques associated with the selected power management stage. A notification can be triggered to alert a user that the processor is implementing the one or more power management techniques prior to implementation.

Power management in wireless modems

This disclosure relates to using a wake up signal in conjunction with cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum. A cellular base station may provide a wake up signal on an unlicensed frequency channel after successful completion of a listen-before-talk procedure. The wake up signal may include a preamble configured for coherent detection, and information indicating channel occupancy time for a cellular communication by the cellular base station and a cell identifier for the cellular base station. A wireless device may monitor the unlicensed frequency channel for a wake up signal, and may determine whether to monitor the unlicensed frequency channel for control channel signaling based on whether a wake up signal is received, and potentially also based on the contents of the wake up signal if a wake up signal is received.

Wake up signal for cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum

Circuits, methods, and apparatus that can allow chipsets in an electronic device to share information such that they can more efficiently utilize resources that are available in the electronic device. One example can provide a bus that is shared by three or more chipsets in an electronic device. This shared bus can be used by the chipsets in the electronic device to communicate and negotiate for the utilization of resources of the electronic device.

Wireless devices, networks and methods may operate to have a wireless device cause a base station to trigger voice call continuity handovers responsive to the quality of the cellular radio link in addition to the base station triggering such handovers based on location or mobility. Furthermore, wireless communication devices may also perform monitoring of multiple buffers operating within the wireless communication device and associated with different respective communication layers, in addition to monitoring the quality of the cellular radio link, to perform intelligent dropping/discarding and/or scheduling of packets at the wireless communications device. Any one or more of these features may improve the ability of the wireless communications device to achieve stated Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) performance benchmarks in the context of the realities of current VoLTE networks.

Link quality based single radio-voice call continuity and packet scheduling for voice over long term evolution communications

A device, e.g. a wireless communication device may obtain information associated with private cellular networks from a provisioning server. The information may provide an indication of coverage area(s) of available private cellular network(s). The device may communicate over a commercial cellular network, and determine, based at least on the information, whether the device is located within the coverage area of any available private cellular networks. The device may connect to a first private cellular network (FPCN) of the available private cellular networks and switch from communicating over the commercial cellular network to communicating over the FPCN at least in response to the determination indicating that the device is located within the indicated coverage area. The device may disconnect from the FPCN in response to a determination that the signal level of the FPCN is below a specified value and the device is not using a wallet garden application.

Device support for scalable neutral host and private LTE/5G network discovery, and device mobility

This disclosure relates to providing system information for cell access to link budget limited devices. According to some embodiments, a base station may transmit a master information block (MIB), a first system information block (SIB), and second SIBs. The first SIB and the second SIBs may be configured for different device categories, and may accordingly have different characteristics. For example, the first SIB may be configured for link budget limited devices, and may include information specific to such devices and/or may exclude information not relevant to such devices or not critical to accessing the cell. In some instances, the first SIB may also include information from the MIB, such that at least some devices may be able to decode the first SIB and gain cell access without decoding the MIB.

System information signaling for link budget limited wireless devices

This disclosure relates to providing a reservation signal for cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum. A cellular base station may perform a listen-before-talk procedure on an unlicensed frequency channel. The cellular base station may transmit a reservation signal on the unlicensed frequency channel after successfully performing the listen-before-talk procedure. The cellular base station may perform carrier sensing on the unlicensed frequency channel at least once during the duration of the reservation signal. The cellular base station may perform cellular communication on the unlicensed frequency channel after ceasing transmitting the reservation signal.

Re-connecting to a first radio access network (RAN) of a first radio access technology (RAT) may include initially connecting to the first RAN. A connection associated with a voice call may then be connected that includes connecting to a RAN of a second RAT. In response to the voice call connecting to the second RAN, information for both a frequency and a cell associated with connecting to the first RAN may be stored. An end to the voice call may be identified. In response to determining that the voice call has ended, a timer may be generated at the UE that comprises a specified time period and the timer and the information stored for both the frequency and the cell associated with connecting to the first RAN may be utilized to re-connect to the first RAN.

Distributing indications of emergency messages via Wi-Fi. A cellular device may temporarily disable its cellular modem. The cellular device may receive an indication over Wi-Fi that an emergency message has been broadcast. In response, the cellular device may activate its cellular modem and retrieve the emergency message via a cellular network.

CMAS alert procedures over Wi-Fi for low power devices

A circuit component may determine whether first signal indicative of at least one of the plurality of communication interface circuits accessing the FEM during a respective communication slot associated with the FEM has been received, determine a first Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) value for the respective communication slot used by the FEM based on data associated with the respective communication slot, and store the first RSSI value in response to the first signal not being received. The circuit component may then determine a first gain for a subsequent slot based on the first RSSI value and discard the first RSSI value in response to the first signal being received.

Coordination of communication protocols using a shared front-end module

A user equipment (UE), or other network component can operate to generate new radio (NR) communications in millimeter wave (mmW) frequencies. Body proximity sensing (BPS) operations can be performed to determine whether a maximum permissible exposure (MPE) event is triggered. A safe transmit power level associated with the one or more bands can then be used to provide the NR communications. Additionally, determinations of whether various conditions are satisfied to suspend the BPS operations for a period can be evaluated and implemented. The BPS can be configured such that a BPS period of the BPS operations are aligned with a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle at a beginning of a DRX on-duration of a DRX cycle, wherein the one or more conditions comprise a DRX idle time or state.

Power-efficient body proximity sensing for mmWave systems

This disclosure relates to techniques for a link budget limited UE to improve communications performance with a cellular network. The UE may perform signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurements and use these measurements to adjust a received signal power value that is provided to the cellular network as a received signal power measurement. The UE may generate the received signal power value based at least in part on the SINR measurement in order to reduce the likelihood of handover when the UE has good SINR but poor received signal power. The UE may also provide preferred configuration information to the base station which enhances the performance of the UE when link budget limited. The configuration information may specify one or more parameter values designed to provide improved performance for a link budget limited device.

Packet-switched wireless communication for link budget limited wireless devices

This disclosure relates to temporary suspension, and subsequent resumption, of radio resource aggregation in a wireless communication system. A wireless device may establish a communication link with a base station. The communication link with the base station may aggregate radio resources according to a first wireless communication technology and a second wireless communication technology. Use by the communication link of radio resources according to the second wireless communication technology may be suspended. Wireless communication activity according to the second wireless communication technology that is not associated with the communication link may be performed while use by the communication link of radio resources according to the second wireless communication technology is suspended. Use by the communication link of radio resources according to the second wireless communication technology may be resumed after performing the wireless communication activity according to the second wireless communication technology.

Radio resource aggregation with suspend/resume support

A network controller, a user equipment (UE) device, and associated methods for conducting intelligent enhanced multimedia broadcast multicast services (eMBMS). A network controller receives user preference information and location information from a plurality of UEs. The network controller selects one or more data packages to transmit using eMBMS in one or more broadcast regions based on the user preference information and the location information. The one or more data packages may comprise an updated machine learning model in a distributed learning application. The network controller provides an indication to a remote device to broadcast the one or more data packages in the respective one or more broadcast regions using eMBMS.
