A belt clip (100) attaches to a battery housing of a communication device to be worn by a user. The belt clip (100) includes a base (104) and a flexible spring loaded latch (106) having an opening. The base (104) is comprised of a pair of rails (108). The pair of rails (108) attach to a battery housing (116) via a pair of undercuts (120). The belt clip (100) is prevented from moving due to the opening of the latch slipped and hooked over a ramped post (124) as the belt clip is slid, from the bottom to the top of the battery, through the pair of undercuts (120) formed by a pair of protrusions that are integrally raised from the top surface of the slim body on opposed sides of the ramping post (124) for providing a belt clip guiding slot. The sliding action is continued, within the slot, until the latch is pressed against and mounted on the ramping post (124).

A radio frequency switch assembly (120) is mountable between an antenna port (110) and a detachable antenna (130) of a radio communication device assembly (100) to provide an interface for a radio frequency accessory. The switch assembly (120) has a radio interface port (123), a radio frequency accessory port (125), and an antenna interface port (127), and associated contacts (207, 216, 223). A mechanical switch alternatively interconnects the radio interface port (123) with the radio frequency accessory port (125) or with the antenna interface port (127). Preferably, the switch includes a conductive probe (213) that continuously engages the radio interface port contact (207) while being slidable to electrically interconnect with the antenna interface port contact (223) or with the radio frequency accessory port contact (216).

A radio housing (101) includes first and second retention mechanisms (216, 218) on both its back and bottom surfaces (104, 106) for selectively retaining a variety of battery form factors and providing a variety of radio configurations.

Adaptable portable radio

A belt clip (100) attaches to a communication device to be worn by a user. The belt clip (100) includes a base (104) and a flexible latch (106). The base (104) is comprised of a pair of rails (108) that has a pair of skies (110). The pair of rails (108) attach to a battery housing (116) via a pair of slots (120). The belt clip (100) is prevented from moving due to the pair of stop bars (110) being pressed against a pair of posts (124) and secondarily, if the posts are damaged, the stop tabs (110) will press against a pair of casting stops (126). The belt clip is designed to fail or detach before permanently damaging the battery housing. If the belt clip (100) is detached due to extreme pulling, it may be replaced back into the still usable battery housing (116) without the use of a tool.

An electrical interface (125, 215) interconnects an electrical device (110) with a removable battery package (120). The electrical interface (125, 215) includes deflectable cantilever contacts (260) that are preferably located within the battery package (120). Each cantilever contact (260) has a portion (261) anchored to a substrate (250), and a deflectable portion (262) biased against a housing member (240), which deflectable portion (262) is externally accessible via a slot (248) within the housing member (240). Preferably, the cantilever contacts (260) are located within a recessed area (245) on an interior surface (241) of the housing member (240). A corresponding projection (346) extends externally on the housing member (240). The external projection (346) facilitates a plug and socket arrangement for mating the battery (120) to the electrical device (110). The substrate (250) is preferably formed from flexible film material and is structurally supported by a backer (270) attached to the housing member (240).

Battery interface structure for an electrical device

A removable battery package (120) has a latch assembly (200) for attaching to a latch coupler (700) of an electronic device (110). The removable battery package (120) includes a socket (432) that mates with the latch coupler (700). A resilient, deflectable latch member (260) is secured within the socket (432). The latch member (260) has a latch portion (266, 268) to engage a portion (715) of the latch coupler (700). A button (270), mounted on the latch member (260), is depressible to deflect the latch member (260).

A converter console (10) includes a base (36) having a hinge axis (127) at a rearward end and a vertical extension (311) having a base mounting joint (29) at the tip of the extension at a front end. A radio receiving pocket (25) has a handle mounting joint (411) at a first end and a hook (27) at a second end, corresponding to the ends of the base for pivotally mounting the hook around the hinge axis. A collapsible linkage (15) couples the pocket (25) to the base (36) between the base mounting joint (29) and the handle mounting joint (411) for pivotally raising and lowering the pocket and for clamping the pocket down.

Briefly, according to the invention, a compression seal between two surfaces is provided by a body portion (212) conforming between the two surfaces (110 and 130). A first (211) and second (311) rim are connected to a perimeter of the body portion (212). For providing a seal between the two surfaces when the two surfaces are compressed against each other, the second rim is connected to the first rim at an angle (216) between 0 and 180 degrees.

A portable radio assembly comprises a radio housing (12), a battery housing (14), and a sliding clamp (40) for interconnecting the housings (12 and 14).

A display system includes a liquid crystal display, a light guide behind the display, and light emitting diodes. The light guide is a molded slab of clear material with a front display surface a rear surface and six bordering surfaces with two planes depressed into its rear surface and having two hollow half cylindrical extensions integrally molded with closed top and bottom ends. The rear surface and bordering surfaces and outer surface of the extensions are coated with reflective white paint. These extensions receive light from surface mounted LED's which are positioned directly below the extensions to redirect the light into the light guide.
