Beamforming channels of a satellite are calibrated using a low power, spread spectrum calibration signal. The power of the calibration signal is below the noise level of a user signal in an active channel, allowing channels to be calibrated while active. When calibrating the transmit side circuitry, a two-stage calibration can be used, first calibrating the output hybrid matrix, then calibrating the whole of the transmit side. To improve performance, the dwell time spend calibrating a channel can be based on the power of the user signal in the channel. A transmit probe can be used to inject a calibration signal into the receive antennae and a receive probe can be used to extract the calibration signal from the transmit antennae. To reduce frequency of calibrations, the calibrations can be based on path-to-path differences. These techniques are also applied to multiport amplifiers (MPAs).

Calibration of satellite beamforming channels

Disclosed herein is a system including analog receive paths and analog transmit paths and signal processing equipment onboard a satellite, and methods for use therewith. For each of a plurality of the analog receive paths, a calibration signal is injected therein below a noise floor thereof, while the path is actively used to receive and condition an RF signal, and the calibration signal is extracted from the analog receive path after the signal has traveled through at least a portion of the path. The extracted calibration signal is compared to the injected calibration signal to determine gain and phase deviations caused by the path. Gain and phase characteristics of the analog receive paths are adjusted to compensate for different gain and phase deviations being caused by different paths. Similar techniques are used to compensate for different gain and phase deviations being caused by different analog transmit paths.

Satellite system calibration in active operational channels

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for determining beamforming coefficients that correct for pointing errors. In one aspect, a subsystem of a ground station can receive calibration signals from a satellite. The properties of the calibration signals can be measured and used to determine the pointing error of the satellite. Beamforming coefficients based on the pointing error can be provided by the ground station to the satellite.

Satellite transmit antenna ground-based pointing

A system is disclosed that allows an entity outside of a private network to initiate communication with another entity inside the private network. A first entity inside the private network maintains a persistent connection with a second entity outside the private network, with a port identification associated with the first entity's persistent connection. A third entity outside the private network obtains the port identification and initiates communication with the first entity by sending a message to the first entity using the port identification. The first and third entities then exchange communications outside the persistent connection. In an alternate implementation, the third entity uses the port identification to send the first entity a request for establishing a connection. The request is forwarded to the first entity through the persistent connection. The first entity responds by establishing a connection with the third entity outside the persistent connection.

Communicating with an entity inside a private network using an existing connection to initiate communication

A private virtual dynamic network is provided for computing devices coupled to public networks or private networks. This enables computing devices anywhere in the world to join into private enterprise intranets and communicate with each other. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a separate private virtual address realm, seen to each user as a private network, while seamlessly crossing public and private network boundaries. One implementation of the present invention uses an agent to enable an entity to participate in the network without requiring the member to add new hardware or software.

Secure virtual community network system

A system is disclosed that allows an entity outside of a private network to initiate communication with an entity inside the private network. The entity inside of the private network maintains a persistent connection with an agent. In one embodiment, communications that are intended for the entity inside the private network are sent to the agent. The agent then forwards the communications to the entity inside the private via the persistent connection.
