Methods, systems, and computer program products, for optimizing performance of ports in a network are provided. The method includes gathering a set of performance data for a port provisioned with a profile. The profile is defined by parameters with associated metrics that are used to establish a level of service for the port. The method also includes analyzing the set of performance data in light of the parameters in the profile to determine a current performance level of the port and performing a set of actions using the current performance level as a baseline. The set of actions include incrementally adjusting at least one of the parameters, determining another set of performance data in response to the adjusting, evaluating the performance data to determine a new performance level, and determining from the new performance level if a maximum performance level for the port is realized.

Methods, systems, and computer programs for optimizing network performance

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a server having a controller to receive a request from a client server for computing resources associated with a processor, determine an estimated completion time associated with previous requests associated with the processor, calculate a priority value for the request based on the estimated completion time, establish a processing schedule for the request and other requests associated with the processor based on the priority value, and provide the request to the processor according to the processing schedule. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Apparatus and method for providing computing resources

A network management system (NMS) automatically models a path for a customer's services from a terminating unit through elements typically on a link-by-link basis, across networks if appropriate, to a network service provider (NSP) or Internet service provider (ISP). The path may be a private virtual circuit or connection (PVC), and it may traverse an 'overall network' including other networks such as an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) service or sub-networks. To model a path, the NMS creates a topology including the elements and links in the overall network and respective features, functions, characteristics, and capacities thereof. The topology allows the NMS to speedily, efficiently, and automatically provision a customer's service from the terminating unit to connection to the customer's selected NSP or ISP for Internet access.
