Processing radar signals

Systems, methods and circuitries are disclosed for compressing radar data. In one example, a radar sender unit includes adaptive compression circuitry configured to determine tuning data, wherein the tuning data is based on one or more operating conditions; compress radar data based on the tuning data; and transmit the compressed radar data to a radar control unit for further processing.

A method for a radar system having a plurality of antennas is provided. The method includes processing a plurality of radar signals for determining a distance between the radar system and at least one target and a velocity of the at least one target, thereby forming a plurality of processed radar signals. Each radar signal of the plurality of radar signals is received by an associated antenna of the plurality of antennas. The plurality of processed radar signals are digitally beamformed for at least one beam direction, thereby forming a plurality of beamformed radar signals. The plurality of beamformed radar signals are summed from the plurality of antennas per beam direction.

Radar system and method of handling radar signals of a radar system

The present disclosure relates to a concept for detecting radar targets. A plurality of first receive signals is received from first antennas of an antenna array. A first combined range-Doppler map is determined by combining range-Doppler maps of each of the first antennas. First confirmable range-Doppler cells of the first combined range-Doppler map are determined which match a predetermined confirmation criterion. A plurality of second receive signals is received from second antennas of the antenna array. A second combined range-Doppler map is determined by combining range-Doppler maps of each of the second antennas. Second confirmable range-Doppler cells of the second combined range-Doppler map are determined which match the predetermined confirmation criterion. The first and second confirmable range-Doppler cells are combined to obtain a set of confirmable range-Doppler cells. Values of the first and the second combined range-Doppler maps corresponding to the set of confirmable range-Doppler cells are summed to obtain summed values of the combined confirmable range-Doppler cells. Summed values of the total confirmable range-Doppler cells exceeding a predefined selection threshold are selected for target detection.

Radar device and method for detecting radar targets

A Signal Processing Unit (SPU) having a thresholding circuit configured to detect a peak cell of a radar data cube, and to output an identification of the peak cell and energy values of the peak cell and its adjacent cells; and an interpolation circuit coupled to the thresholding circuit, and configured to determine and transmit from the SPU to a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), a relative position of the peak cell between the adjacent cells based on the energy values.

Systems, methods, and circuitries are disclosed for compressing radar data. In one example, a method includes storing radar data in a memory, the radar data being stored in a data cube having a slow-time dimension, a fast-time dimension, and a channel dimension. The data cube is divided into one or more zones. For each zone a number of data matrices is selected based on a compression factor. Sets of data matrices containing the number of data matrices are formed and, for each set of data matrices, for each data matrix, the data vectors are coded to generate a coded data matrix. A coding for data vectors in a data matrix is the same and a coding for different data matrices is different. The coded data matrices are combined to generate a compressed data matrix for the zone and the compressed data matrices for the one or more zones are stored.

Compressive multiplexing for radar data

A radar device is provided that is arranged for conducting an interference detection and mitigation based on received and sampled radar signals and storing interference-mitigated data; conducting an FFT on the interference-mitigated data and storing FF-transformed data; conducting a compression on the FF-transformed data into compressed data; and storing the compressed data in a memory. A method for the use in a radar system comprises: receiving an RF radar signal; down-converting the received RF radar signal into a base band using a frequency-modulated local oscillator signal including a scanning chirp having a higher bandwidth than a regular chirp bandwidth; generating a digital base band signal based on the down-converted RF radar signal, the digital base band signal including a sequence of samples associated with the scanning chirp; identifying, in the sequence of samples, impaired samples, which are affected by interference; and selecting&#x2014;based on the position of the impaired samples within the sequence of samples&#x2014;a sub-band, which has the regular chirp bandwidth, for transmitting chirps of chirp frame used for measurement data acquisition.

A method for processing a radar signal is provided. The method may include receiving chirps of a radar signal, sampling the radar signal, dividing the samples that correspond to the chirp of the radar signal into at least two virtual chirps, and processing the radar signal based on the at least two virtual chirps. Also, a corresponding device is provided.

A radar system is described. In accordance with one example implementation, the radar system comprises a passive coupler arrangement and also a first radar chip, a second radar chip and a third radar chip. The radar chips each comprise at least one external RF contact and also a local oscillator designed to generate an RF oscillator signal at least in a switched-on state. The external RF contacts of the radar chips are coupled via the coupler arrangement in such a way that, in a first operating mode, the RF oscillator signal can be transferred from the first radar chip via the coupler arrangement to the second radar chip and the third radar chip, and that, in a second operating mode, the RF oscillator signal can be transferred from the second radar chip via the coupler arrangement to the third radar chip.

The present disclosure relates to a radar device including a first radar-IC for processing first receive signals from first antennas of an antenna array, wherein the first radar-IC is configured to determine a first range-Doppler map based on the first receive signals, and to determine a first subregion of the first range-Doppler map based on criteria of interest. The radar device also includes at least a second radar-IC for processing second receive signals from second antennas of the antenna array, wherein the second radar-IC is configured to determine a second range-Doppler map based on the second receive signals, and to determine a second subregion of the second range-Doppler map based on the criteria of interest. A data interface is configured to forward information indicative of the first and/or the second subregions to a common processor for further processing.

A method for generating a compact representation of radar data, includes determining at least one data peak within a multi-dimensional representation of radar data; and compressing radar data samples of the multi-dimensional representation within a limited neighborhood around the at least one data peak to generate the compact representation.

A method for processing radar signals includes emitting a first radar signal via a transmitting antenna of a first radar unit, where the first radar signal is phase modulated using a first code and a first frequency offset is added to at least a portion of the first radar signal, and emitting a second radar signal via a transmitting antenna of a second radar unit, where the second radar signal is phase modulated using a second code. The first code and the second code are orthogonal to each other and the first radar unit and the second radar unit are loosely coupled with each other. The method further includes receiving a combined radar signal via a receiving antenna of the first radar unit, where the combined radar signal comprises a reflections of the first and the second radar signals, and processing the combined radar signal at the first radar unit.
