A catheter is provided comprising localized regions of modified flexibility. The regions of modified flexibility may comprise a softened inner liner, for example softened via stretching the inner liner or disposing a plurality of holes in the inner liner, to modify the bending stiffness and/or tensile stiffness of the catheter. The catheter may further include an axially extending filament that at least partially overlaps the softened portion of the inner liner. The axially extending filament may include an anchoring section to anchor the at least one axially extending filament in a section of the catheter that includes the helical coil.

Enhanced flexibility neurovascular catheter

A neurovascular catheter is provided, such as for distal neurovascular access or aspiration. The catheter includes an elongate flexible tubular body, having a proximal end, a distal end and a side wall defining a central lumen. The side wall includes a tubular inner liner, a tie layer separated from the central lumen by the inner liner, a helical coil at least partially overlapping the tie layer, and a tubular braid. A first section of adjacent windings of the helical coil can be spaced farther apart from each other than a second section of adjacent windings of the helical coil.

Neurovascular catheter

Disclosed are methods, devices and materials for the in situ formation of an implant for treating a nerve. A treatment site on a nerve is positioned within a cavity defined by a form. A transformable media is introduced into the form cavity to surround the treatment site. The media is permitted to undergo a transformation from a first, relatively flowable state to a second, relatively non flowable state to form a protective barrier surrounding the treatment site. The implant may be a growth inhibiting nerve cap to inhibit neuroma formation following planned or traumatic nerve injury, a growth permissive conduit for facilitating reconnection of a severed nerve, or an anchor for stabilizing a pain management electrode with respect to a nerve. Access to the nerve treatment site may be open surgical or percutaneous.

Methods for forming a nerve barrier

Apparatus and methods are provided for flaring a stent deployed within a branch vessel including an ostium communicating with a main vessel, a first end of the stent extending at least partially from the branch. A catheter is provided that includes a first balloon carried on its distal end, and a second balloon that includes a distal section overlying at least a portion of the first balloon and a proximal section. The catheter distal end is introduced into the main vessel and positioned through the ostium and stent into the branch until the first balloon is disposed within the stent. The first balloon is expanded to anchor the stent, and the second balloon is expanded to flare the first end of the stent. Optionally, the first balloon is expanded further, e.g., to expand the stent within the branch body lumen and/or dilate the lesion.

Balloon catheters and methods for use

Disclosed are methods, devices and materials for the in situ formation of a nerve cap and/or a nerve wrap to inhibit neuroma formation following planned or traumatic nerve injury. The method includes the steps of identifying a severed end of a nerve, and positioning the severed end into a cavity defined by a form. A transformable media is introduced into the form cavity to surround the severed end. The media is permitted to undergo a transformation from a first, relatively flowable state to a second, relatively non flowable state to form a protective barrier surrounding the severed end. The media may be a hydrogel, and the transformation may produce a synthetic crosslinked hydrogel protective barrier. The media may include at least one anti-regeneration agent to inhibit nerve regrowth.

Devices for in situ formed nerve caps and/or nerve wraps

Disclosed are coating compositions, processes, and designs for endowing vascular devices with thromboresistant and endothelializing properties. Also disclosed are designs of vascular devices used as aneurysm treating devices for assisting in the delivery, packing, and maintenance of embolization coils within an aneurysm, particularly a neurovascular aneurysm.

Methods and devices for in situ formed nerve cap

Inflation devices and methods for using them are provided for selectively inflating and deflating multiple balloons on a catheter. For example, the inflation device may include a first valve including a plurality of first valve ports and a first valve member movable between multiple positions for opening and closing fluid paths between the first valve ports, a second valve including a plurality of second valve ports and a second valve member movable between multiple positions for opening and closing fluid paths between the second valve ports, and an actuator coupled to the first and second valve members for directing the first and second valve members between multiple positions, e.g., to selectively pull vacuum and sequentially inflate the balloons.

Inflation devices and systems for balloon catheters and methods for use

Apparatus and methods are provided for flaring a stent deployed within a branch vessel including an ostium communicating with a main vessel, a first end of the stent extending at least partially from the branch. A catheter is provided that includes a balloon having a reinforced region adjacent an unreinforced region. When the balloon is positioned at a desired location, e.g., within a stent, prosthetic valve, or other tubular prosthesis, the balloon may be inflated to a first pressure causing the reinforced and unreinforced regions to expand substantially simultaneously. Upon inflation of the balloon beyond the first pressure, the reinforced region of the balloon remains at the first diameter and the unreinforced region continues to expand, e.g., to flare one or more ends of the prosthesis.

Methods and devices for treating a luminal pathology affecting an anatomical lumen of a patient comprising forming, in situ, a continuous cohesive layer of covalently-crosslinked hydrogel in a luminal wall of the anatomical lumen.

Extra luminal scaffold

A neurovascular catheter having an angled distal tip has an elongate flexible tubular body with a proximal end, a distal end and a side wall defining a central lumen. The side wall has a helical coil. A tubular jacket surrounds the helical coil, and extending distally beyond the helical coil distal end to terminate in a catheter distal face. A tubular radiopaque marker is embedded in the tubular jacket in between the distal end of the coil and the distal face. The distal face resides on a plane which crosses a longitudinal axis of the tubular body at an angle within the range of from about 35 degrees to about 55 degrees. The marker has a proximal face that is approximately perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and a distal face that resides on a plane which crosses the longitudinal axis at an angle within the range of from about 35 degrees to about 55 degrees.

Enhanced flexibility neurovascular catheter with tensile support

A neurovascular catheter has enhanced tensile strength to resist distal tip detachment during proximal retraction past an obstruction. The catheter includes an elongated flexible tubular body, having a proximal end, a distal end and a side wall defining a central lumen. A radiopaque marker is provided adjacent to the distal end. The tensile support extends axially inside the side wall and is attached to the radiopaque marker, to tether the marker to the catheter body. In one implementation, the tensile support may at least partially wrap around the marker. The marker may have a tubular sidewall with a feature to increase compressibility, such as at least one compression gap in a proximal portion of the side wall.

Catheter with enhanced tensile strength

A method of making a high flexibility distal zone on a neurovascular catheter is provided. The method includes the steps of dip coating a removable mandrel to form a tubular inner layer on the mandrel, coating the tubular inner layer with a tie layer, applying a helical coil to the outside of the tie layer, positioning a plurality of tubular segments, heating the tubular segments to form the high flexibility distal zone on the neurovascular catheter; and removing the mandrel.
