A smart body analyzer apparatus includes a rotatable plate for supporting and turning a body, a control unit for rotating the rotatable plate, and at least one group of touch-less sensors for scanning the body. Examples of touch-less sensors include a far infrared temperature sensor and a depth sensor. The depth sensor can employ a time-of-flight imaging method, a stereoscopic imaging method, a microwave imaging method and/or a laser ranging method based on trigonometric principles.

The invention relates to a motor driven turntable for a personal biofeedback apparatus and/or a medical diagnostic apparatus. The motor driven turntable includes a bottom plate, a rotatable top plate, a motor for driving the top plate, an integrated electronic scale for measuring the weight of a person positioned on the top plate and a wireless interface that permits communication between the scale and an external computer of the personal biofeedback apparatus and/or medical diagnostic apparatus.

A method for extracting information about a body's skeleton from a 3D body mesh includes measuring the closest distance from every vertex of the 3-D body mesh to the centroid of the 3-D body mesh and using these measurements to compute a geodesic map of these distances. Key anchors are then extracted from the geodesic map. The geodesic map and the key anchors are used to segment the 3-D body mesh into body parts. A circumference of each body part is computed, and a centroid of the circumference is determined. For each body part, a body mean curve along the centroid is determined. Skeleton joints between the body parts and connections between these joints are determined. A 3-D body scanner employing this skeleton estimation method is also disclosed.

A method implemented with a smart body scanner with applications for online apparel retail, fitness, and healthcare applications includes, with a plurality of depth sensors implemented in the body scanner, creating 3D depth images of a body. In a hardware processing step, 3D depth images are generated as recorded part-images with saturated bright regions and lost dark regions. In a pre-processing step, using High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing, depth data obtained in the bright regions is combined with depth data obtained in the dark regions. In a model fusion step, a single 3D body model is created from a stream of the 3D depth images obtained from multiple angles of view during rotating of the body.
