Disclosed is a method of operating a Radio Access Network (RAN) including a Radio Unit (RU), a first Distributed Unit (DU), a second DU that functions as a dynamic standby DU, and a network management device. After the RU transmits data to the first DU using a configuration parameter set to an address of the first DU, the RU detects an outage of the first DU. In response to detecting the outage, the RU transmits to the network management device a message indicating detection of the outage. In response, the network management device configures the second DU to perform the functions of the first DU, and causes the second DU to request the RU to set the configuration parameter to an address of the second DU. The RU then uses the configuration parameter set to the address of the second DU to transmit data to the second DU.

Systems and methods for operating radio access networks with high service availability

Systems, methods, and devices dynamically allocate bandwidth parts in response to conditions at cell sites. An example process assigns a first plurality of slices and a second plurality of slices to communicate on a bandwidth of a cell site. The cell site operates at a first level of power consumption. A changed operating state is detected at the cell site, and the first plurality of slices is assigned to communicate on a bandwidth part of the cell site in response to detecting the changed operating state. The bandwidth part is a subset of the bandwidth. The cell site operates at a second level of power consumption in response to assigning the plurality of slices to communicate on the bandwidth part. The second level of power consumption is less than the first level of power consumption.

According to various embodiments, message flooding in the wireless network is reduced through the use of 'dummy' messages from the radio unit (RU) to the distributed unit (DU) and/or layer two (L2) switch. The dummy messages prevent timeout of the RU's data in the L2 switch's routing tables, thereby prolonging the period of time that the L2 switch is able to more efficiently direct subsequent traffic toward that particular device.

After a second computing device installs software, the second computing device receives the first DU configuration information including the address of the first RU device. The first computing device receives an instruction to stop data transmission to the first RU device. The second computing device causes the first RU device stores an address of the second computing device as the value of the configuration parameter. The second computing device receives an instruction to start data transmission to the first RU device.

When a failed connection is detected from a first radio unit (RU) to the cellular site router (CSR), activation of an existing backup cabled connection from the first RU to the CSR through a cabled connection between the first RU and a second RU of the cellular telecommunications tower may be performed. In one example, a first RU and second RU each have two physical network ports. Various arrangements for updating a radio unit (RU) of a cellular network are presented. A volume of cellular signals being handled by a first programmable processor of the RU and a second programmable processor of the RU may be analyzed. A determination can be made that one of the processors has sufficient available resources to handle the analyzed volume of cellular signals. The RU can cause cellular signals to be rerouted to one of the programmable processors while the other processor is taken offline for updating. The update process is performed such that UE in communication with the RU experience uninterrupted cellular network access.

Systems and methods are provided for adaptive bandwidth (BW) management configuring an element management control unit including a set of distribution/central units (DU/CU) for monitoring power and traffic loads at a plurality of cell sites in a network; communicating with a BW management unit coupled to the element management system to adapt BW for users at cell sites by moving users to a set of smaller bandwidth parts (BWPs) at a cell site in response to a set of conditions of AC power outages and reduced traffic loads detected by the BW management unit, and in response to at least one of the detected conditions, instructing based on data from the DU/CU to the BW management unit to move user traffic to a designated lower BWP of the set of smaller BWPs at the cell site while shutting down other BWPs at the cell site to save the power of an operating cell site.

Various arrangements for transitioning the bandwidth allocation of a cellular network, such as at a base station, are presented. Bandwidth parts may be defined for communication with the cellular network, such as on a per-base station basis. At a given time, two of these bandwidth parts may be actively used for communication by different UE for communication with the base station. A determination to adjust a bandwidth allocation may be made. A series of transitions may be performed to migrate from the first two of these bandwidth parts to the second two of the bandwidth parts such that interference does not occur.
