Environmentally-friendly, surface-compatible, non-malodorous, sporicidal compositions, in solid or liquid form, containing a peroxyphthalic acid and/or salt thereof in combination with a synergistic additive selected from one or more of the groups consisting of (i) formic acid, acetic acid, benzoic acid, diglycolic acid, furoic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, phenylacetic acid, sulfamic acid, sulfosuccinic acid, and salts thereof; (ii) C6-C24 alkyl or aryl ether carboxylic acids and their salts, C8-C24 alkyl taurines and their salts, aryl taurines and their salts, alkoxylated C8-C24 alkyl phosphoric acid esters and their salts, and glycerol ethers; (iii) aromatic alcohols, C2-C8 linear or branched alcohols, dibasic esters, 2-pyrrolidone, butyl carbitol, butyl cellosolve, lactate esters, butyl-3-hydroxybutyrate, and triacetin; and (iv) antimicrobial metals. Aqueous embodiments have a pH of less than 6. Kits and methods of antimicrobial reduction relating to same are also disclosed.

Antimicrobial compositions containing peroxyphthalic acid and/or salt thereof

An aqueous skin-compatible antimicrobial solution effective against yeasts and mycobacteria, comprises 2-3.8 wt % of at least one peroxygen; from 1.5 up to 7 wt % of at least one aromatic monohydroxy alcohol selected from phenoxyethanol, phenethyl alcohol, cyclopentylmethanol, cyclohexylmethanol, benzyl alcohol, or any mixture thereof; from 0.5 up to 5 wt % of at least one high foaming amine oxide amphoteric surfactant; from 2 up to 10 wt % of at least one polyol-based skin conditioning agent; an effective amount of at least one pH adjusting agent for adjusting the solution pH to 2-3. The solution has a redox potential value from 220 to 280 mV, is readily biodegradable, and is free of aromatic carboxylic acids, inorganic salts, quaternary ammonium compounds, volatile aliphatic monohydroxy alcohols, other volatile organic compounds, halogen containing compounds, and other antimicrobial agents.

Peroxygen-based skin disinfectants effective against mycobacteria and yeasts

The use of a C3-C6 N-alkyl-gamma-butyrolactam, e.g. N-butyl-gamma-butyrolactam, to enhance the antimicrobial activity and/or stability of a peroxygen compound (e.g. hydrogen peroxide) in solution, and related compositions and methods. An example antimicrobial composition includes (a) at least one peroxygen compound; (b) at least one C3-C6 N-alkyl-gamma-butyrolactam; and (c) optionally, water, q.s. to 100.

C3-C6 N-alkyl-gamma-butyrolactam- and peroyxgen-containing antimicrobial compositions

A shelf-stable concentrated antimicrobial composition and method of using same comprises: at least one cyclic carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof in an amount from about 1 wt. % to about 10 wt. %; at least one anionic surfactant in an amount from about 10 wt. % to about 35 wt. %; at least one non-surfactant strong acid having a pKa less than about 2.3 in an amount from about 2 wt. % to about 25 wt. %; and at least one chelating agent in an amount from about 0.1 wt. % to about 10 wt. %. The composition retains at least 90% of its original antimicrobial efficacy after storage for at least five years at room temperature, and is substantially free of hydrogen peroxide, sources of hydrogen peroxide, parabens, aldehydes, aldehyde releasing agents, phenols, biguanides, peroxycarboxylic acids, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorine compounds, enzymes, and etchants.

Shelf-stable antimicrobial compositions

An antimicrobial composition comprising (i) an effective amount of a first antimicrobial agent consisting of at least one solvent which is a compound according to Formula 1: wherein Ris a branched or unbranched, saturated or unsaturated, unsubstituted C3 to C5 alkyl chain or a C3 alkyl chain substituted with a methoxy group; (ii) at least one additional solvent (e.g. selected from the group consisting of ethanol, propanol, butanol, phenethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, cyclopentylmethanol, dimethyl adipate, dimethyl succinate, ethylhexylglycerin, 2-butoxyethanol, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, butylene carbonate, glycerin carbonate, and butyl 3-hydroxybutyrate); and (iii) a diluent, q.s. to 100; wherein the antimicrobial composition is substantially free of peroxygen compounds, antibiotics, and chloroacetamide. Also described are methods of using the compound of Formula 1 and compositions containing same in the field of infection control and prevention.

C3-C5 n-alkyl-gamma-butyrolactam containing antimicrobial compositions and methods of using same

An antimicrobial composition containing a diluent (e.g. water) and about 0.01 wt. % to about 90 wt. % of at least one compound according to Formula 1  wherein Ris a branched or unbranched, saturated or unsaturated, C3 to C5 N-alkyl-chain and the antimicrobial composition is substantially free of peroxygen compounds, antibiotics, and chloroacetamide. Methods of using the composition to reduce the microbial load on a surface are also provided, as is the use of the compound according to Formula 1 as an antimicrobial agent.

C3-C5 N-alkyl-gamma-butyrolactam-containing antimicrobial compositions and uses thereof

An aqueous disinfecting solution and uses and methods of disinfection and sanitization employing same. The solution comprises at least one inorganic salt selected from the group consisting of sulfate, chloride, bromide, iodide, carbonate, phosphate, fluoride, and nitrate salts in a concentration of from about 0.1 to about 15 wt. %; at least one peroxide compound in a concentration of from about 0.01 to about 8 wt. %; and at least one amphoteric amine oxide surfactant having the formula R1R2R3NO wherein each of R1, R2, and R3 is independently a saturated, unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted linear or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 28 carbon atoms in a concentration of from about 0.01 to about 15 wt. %.

Peroxide-based disinfecting solutions containing inorganic salts

A shelf-stable concentrated antimicrobial composition comprising at least one cyclic carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof in an amount from about 2 wt. % to about 4 wt. %; at least one anionic surfactant and/or salt thereof in an amount from about 22 wt. % to about 32 wt. %; at least one non-surfactant strong acid (i.e. having a pKa less than about 2.3) in an amount from about 8 wt. % to about 18 wt. %; and at least one chelating agent in an amount from about 0.1 wt. % to about 2 wt. %. The composition retains at least 90% of its original antimicrobial efficacy after storage for at least five years at room temperature, and is substantially free of additional antimicrobial compounds including hydrogen peroxide, sources of hydrogen peroxide, essential oils, parabens, aldehydes, aldehyde releasing agents, phenols, antiseptic alcohols, biguanides, peroxycarboxylic acids, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorine compounds, enzymes, and etchants. Also described are methods for using the composition to reduce the microbial load on a surface comprising, optionally, the step of diluting the composition with water and/or an organic solvent and, optionally, adding an additional antimicrobial compound, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, prior to use.
