An aqueous personal care rinse off composition is provided, comprising: a dermatologically acceptable aqueous vehicle; a dermatologically acceptable cleaning surfactant; and a plurality of composite opacifier particles, wherein the composite opacifier particles comprise metal oxide particles that are partially or completely encapsulated by a wax; wherein the metal oxide particles are selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide, titanium oxide and mixtures thereof; wherein the metal oxide particles have a z average particle size of >100 nm as measured by dynamic light scattering; wherein the wax has a melting point temperature of 50 to 110° C.; and wherein the composite opacifier particles have a z average particle size of >100 nm to 2,000 nm as measured by dynamic light scattering.

Personal care formulation

The present invention relates to a method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of acrylate-siloxane copolymer particles as described herein. The polymer particles comprise structural units of an acrylate monomer; an acid monomer; and a siloxane acrylate monomer of formula I: where R, R, R, Y and x are as defined herein. The method provides an efficient way to prepare a high solids content aqueous dispersion of siloxane-acrylate hybrid copolymers with efficient incorporation of siloxane acrylate monomers, low residual monomer, and low generation of unwanted coagulum. The dispersion is useful for forming coatings with improved hydrophobicity, stain resistance, and aesthetic/haptic properties compared with conventional all-acrylic compositions.

Preparation of an aqueous dispersion of acrylate-siloxane copolymer particles

A polymer blend is provided comprising: a single stage polymer and a silicone-grafted vinyl copolymer; wherein the single stage polymer comprises: structural units of a monoethylenically unsaturated non-ionic monomer; structural units of a monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer; and structural units of a multiethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups per molecule; and wherein the silicone-grafted vinyl copolymer, comprises: structural units of a vinyl monomer; and structural units of a carbosiloxane dendrimer of formula (I). Also provided is a suncare formulation comprising the polymer blend in a dermatologically acceptable carrier with a suncare active.

Suncare formulation

A hydrophilic silica/polymer blend is provided comprising (a) a hydrophilic silica powder; and (b) a thickening polymer powder, comprising (i) structural units of Calkyl (meth)acrylate monomer; (ii) structural units of (meth)acrylic acid monomer; (iii) structural units of (methoxy) poly(ethylene glycol) (meth)acrylate monomer; and (iv) structural units of multiethylenically unsaturated monomer; wherein the weight ratio of hydrophilic silica powder to thickening polymer powder in the hydrophilic silica/polymer blend is 1:9 to 9:1. Also provided are personal care compositions containing same and methods of using same.

A color cosmetic formulation is provided comprising: a color ingredient and a polymer blend, comprising: a single stage polymer and a silicone-grafted vinyl copolymer; wherein the single stage polymer comprises: structural units of a monoethylenically unsaturated non-ionic monomer; structural units of a monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer; and structural units of a multiethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups per molecule; and wherein the silicone-grafted vinyl copolymer, comprises: structural units of a vinyl monomer; and structural units of a carbosiloxane dendrimer of formula (I).

A polymer blend is provided comprising: (A) multistage polymer, comprising: acrylate rich stage comprising: structural units of monoethylenically unsaturated non-ionic, acrylate rich stage monomer selected from Calkyl (meth)acrylates and mixtures thereof; and carbosiloxane rich stage, comprising: structural units of carbosiloxane monomer of formula (I); and (B) silicone-grafted vinyl copolymer, wherein the silicone-grafted vinyl copolymer, comprises: structural units of a vinyl (B) monomer; and structural units of a carbosiloxane dendrimer of formula (V). Also provided are personal care formulations comprising the polymer blend.

Multistage polymer

A personal care composition is provided, comprising: a vehicle; a cosmetically acceptable oil; and a cationic polymer comprising structural units of acrylamide monomer; structural units of N,N-dimethyl acrylamide monomer; and structural units of monoethylenically unsaturated monocationic monomer; wherein the cationic polymer comprises <10 mol % structural units of multiethylenically unsaturated cationic monomer; wherein the cationic polymer comprises <30 wt % structural units of ester containing monomers; wherein the cationic polymer comprises <1 mol % structural units of ethylenically unsaturated monomers containing a moiety selected from the group consisting of epoxy, anhydride, imide, lactone, carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid and isocyanate; wherein the cationic polymer comprises <0.1 mol % structural units of a reactive siloxane; and wherein the personal care composition comprises <0.05 wt % water soluble, organic, ampholytic polymer conditioning agent. Also provided is a method of using a personal care composition.

Personal care composition

A polymer/hydrophilic silica blend is provided comprising (a) a thickening polymer powder, comprising (i) structural units of Calkyl (meth)acrylate monomer; (ii) structural units of (meth)acrylic acid monomer, and (iii) structural units of a specialized associative monomer of formula (I) wherein Ris a linear saturated Calkyl group; and n is an average of 20 to 28; and (b) a hydrophilic silica powder; wherein the weight ratio of hydrophilic silica powder to thickening polymer powder in the polymer/hydrophilic silica blend is 1:9 to 9:1. Also provided are personal care compositions containing same and methods of using same.

Polymer/hydrophilic silica oil blend

An acidic aqueous shampoo composition, which comprises: (I) a cleansing surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactant, zwitterionic or amphoteric surfactant and nonionic surfactant; (II) an emulsified silicone, (III) an anti-settling, thickening polymer, wherein the anti-settling, thickening polymer, comprises: (a) 40 to 74.5 wt % of structural units of Calkyl acrylate; (b) 20 to 50 wt % of structural units of methacrylic acid; (c) 0.3 to &#x3c;5 wt % of structural units of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propane sulfonic acid (AMPS); (d) 5 to 25 wt % of structural units of a specialized associated monomer having the following structure: wherein Ris a linear saturated Calkyl group; wherein Ris a hydrogen or a methyl group (preferably, wherein Ris a methyl group); and wherein n is an average of 20 to 28; with the proviso that the structural units of the specialized associated monomer (d) are derived from one of (i) a single specialized associated monomer (preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; more preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group); (ii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Cand a linear saturated Calkyl group; or (iii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; (f) 0 to 2 wt % of structural units of multi-ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer or chain transfer agent; and wherein the sum of the weight percentages of structural units (a)-(f) is equal to 100 wt % of the anti-settling, thickening polymer; and method of treating hair or scalp with such a composition. 

Shampoo composition and method of use

An aqueous anti-dandruff shampoo composition which comprises: (I) a cleansing surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactant, zwitterionic or amphoteric surfactant and nonionic surfactant; (II) suspended particles of an anti-dandruff agent, (III) an anti-settling, thickening polymer, wherein the anti-settling, thickening polymer, comprises: (a) 40 to 74.5 wt % of structural units of Calkyl acrylate; (b) 20 to 50 wt % of structural units of methacrylic acid; (c) 0.2 to &#x3c;5 wt % of structural units of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS); (d) 5 to 25 wt % of structural units of a specialized associated monomer having the following structure wherein Ris a linear saturated Calkyl group; wherein Ris a hydrogen or a methyl group (preferably, wherein Ris a methyl group); and wherein n is an average of 20 to 28; with the proviso that the structural units of the specialized associated monomer (d) are derived from one of (i) a single specialized associated monomer (preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; more preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein R 1 is selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated C12 alkyl group and a linear saturated C18 alkyl group); (ii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Cand a linear saturated Calkyl group; or (iii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; (e) 0 to 1 wt % of structural units of acrylic acid; and (f) 0 to 2 wt % of structural units of multi-ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer or chain transfer agent; and wherein the sum of the weight percentages of structural units (a)-(f) is equal to 100 wt % of the anti-settling, thickening polymer; and the use of such a composition in a method of treating hair or scalp.
