The disclosed technology teaches creating a real time visualization and analysis of Wi-Fi performance and behavior of a DUT in wireless communication with a selected Wi-Fi test device. Also included is performing a radiated test of the DUT using transceiver signals from multiple test antennas impinging on antennas of the DUT, capturing packet details of traffic between the DUT and the selected Wi-Fi test device using a sniffer that is RF coupled to antennas of the selected Wi-Fi test device, and generating a time series summary stream in real time from the packet details captured by the sniffer, including summaries of both performance and behavior metrics. The performance metrics summarize throughput and other measured characteristics of a received signal and the behavior metrics capture transmitter settings that the DUT and test devices choose. Also included is generating scrolling visualizations of selected metrics from the stream as the radiated test proceeds.

Packet capture based Wi-Fi performance analysis

A wireless link monitor is configured to operate as an active client that can send and/or receive wireless traffic to and/or from wireless devices-under-test (DUTs) in the network. When the wireless link monitor operates as an active client, the DUTs can send respective wireless traffic to the wireless link monitor. This ensures that the wireless link monitor receives the wireless traffic even when the DUTs transmit their wireless signals narrowly (e.g., in adaptive beamforming technologies).

Multi-functional wireless link monitor

An apparatus for testing electromagnetic components includes electromagnetically-isolating external walls that define a chamber. An internal wall is attached to one or more of the electromagnetically-isolating external walls to form an internal test instrument chamber and an internal device testing chamber. An internal RF feed-through port passes through the internal wall to electrically couple a test instrument disposed in the internal test instrument chamber to a wireless device-under-test (DUT) disposed in the internal device testing chamber. One or more external RF feed-through ports can pass through one of the electromagnetically-isolating external walls to electrically couple the DUT and/or the test instrument to a second wireless device.

Channel emulator system and method

Time-varying conditions in a wireless network are simulated using an architecture that includes an enclosure for shielding a wireless device under test ('DUT') from electro-magnetic interference, including other wireless devices; and at least one of: (1) a communications traffic generating device operable to generate communications traffic having selected characteristics; and (2) at least one dynamically adjustable attenuator in communication with the wireless device and the traffic generator. Embodiments of the architecture include wireless test equipment for testing operating range, roaming and capacity. The attenuator is used to adjustably attenuate signals between the device and the traffic generator over time during a test, whereby motion of the device is simulated. By connecting multiple access points, each associated with a dynamically adjustable attenuator, it is possible to force the DUT to roam between access points. The communications traffic generating device can be used to vary traffic over time during a test in order to test capacity, prioritization and admission control. For example, the communications traffic generator may include phone and data client emulators which simulate different traffic types that can be independently varied over time during a test.

Simulating time-varying conditions in a wireless network

Test equipment operable to evaluate handoff in wireless networks can be configured as an infrastructure test system or a client mobility test system. The infrastructure test system includes a plurality of client emulating devices and a client motion emulator for testing real access points. Each client emulating device is operable to emulate multiple individual virtual mobile devices ('virtual mobile devices'). The client motion emulator computes a mathematical representation of the modeled network and motion of virtual mobile devices in that network. The client motion emulator employs the mathematical representation to calculate path loss between virtual mobile devices and the real access points in the modeled network. The calculated path loss information is transmitted to the virtual mobile devices. Path loss of communications from a virtual mobile device to an access point is implemented via a programmable attenuator.

Evaluation of handoff in wireless networks using emulation

A modular test chassis for use in testing wireless devices includes a backplane and a channel emulation module coupled to the backplane. The channel emulation module comprises circuitry for emulating the effects of a dynamic physical environment (including air, interfering signals, interfering structures, movement, etc.) on signals in the transmission channel shared by the first and second device. Different channel emulation modules may be included in the test system depending upon the protocol, network topology or capability under test. A test module may be provided to generate traffic at multiple interfaces of SISO or MIMO DUTs to enable thorough testing of device and system behavior in the presence of emulated network traffic and fault conditions. A latency measurement system and method applies timestamps frames as they are transmit and received at the test module for improved latency measurement accuracy.

Modular wireless test architecture and method

A method and system for simulating a wireless environment is provided including a central RF combining component; a plurality of connection nodes, each connection node in RF connection with the central RF combining component through a programmable attenuation component; wherein the programmable attenuation components are controlled by a controller console, the controller console maintaining information regarding simulated spatial positioning of the plurality of connection nodes in the simulated wireless environment, and adjusting the programmable attenuation components to appropriately simulate the simulated spatial positioning of the connection nodes in the simulated wireless environment. Additionally, an RF module for creating and receiving RF signals in a test environment is provided.
