A method and apparatus of processing multimedia data that includes a first section received in error are disclosed. Error distribution information corresponding to the first section may be obtained. One of a plurality of error recovery schemes may be selected based on the error distribution information for the first section. The selection may be based at least on whether a channel switch is detected. The first section may be processed based on the selected error recovery scheme.

Method and apparatus for unified error concealment framework

Techniques for error concealment in multimedia data processing. In an embodiment, error distribution information corresponding to a first section in an access unit is obtained. Video analytics systems and methods are described that typically comprise a video encoder operable to generate macroblock video analytics metadata (VAMD) from a video frame. Functional modules receive the VAMD and an encoded version of the video frame is configured to generate video analytics information related to the frame using the VAMD and the encoded video frame. The downstream decoder can use the VAMD to obtain a global motion vector related to the frame, detect and track motion of an object within the frame and monitor a line provided or found within the frame. Traversals of the line by a moving object can be detected and counted using information in the VAMD and the line may be part of a polygon that delineates an area to be monitored within the encoded frame. The VAMD can comprise macroblock level and video frame level information.

Systems and methods for video content analysis

An Encoder Assisted Frame Rate Up Conversion (EA-FRUC) system that utilizes video coding and pre-processing operations at the video encoder to exploit the FRUC processing that will occur in the decoder in order to improve compression efficiency and reconstructed video quality is disclosed. One operation of the EA-FRUC system involves determining whether to encode a frame in a sequence of frames of a video content by determining a spatial activity in a frame of the sequence of frames; determining a temporal activity in the frame; determining a spatio-temporal activity in the frame based on the determined spatial activity and the determined temporal activity; determining a level of a redundancy in the source frame based on at least one of the determined spatial activity, the determined temporal activity, and the determined spatio-temporal activity; and, encoding the non-redundant information in the frame if the determined redundancy is within predetermined thresholds.

An Encoder Assisted Frame Rate Up Conversion (EA-FRUC) system that utilizes various motion models, such as affine models, in addition to video coding and pre-processing operations at the video encoder to exploit the FRUC processing that will occur in the decoder in order to improve the modeling of moving objects, compression efficiency and reconstructed video quality. Furthermore, objects are identified in a way that reduces the amount of information necessary for encoding to render the objects on the decoder device.

The invention generally relates to multimedia data processing, and more particularly, to processing operations performed prior to or in conjunction with data compression processing. A method of processing multimedia data includes receiving interlaced video frames, obtaining metadata for the interlaced video frames, converting the interlaced video frames to progressive video using at least a portion of the metadata; and providing the progressive video and at least a portion of the metadata to an encoder for use in encoding the progressive video. The method can also include generating spatial information and bi-directional motion information, for the interlaced video frames, and generating progressive video based on the interlaced video frames using the spatial and bi-directional motion information.

Systems and methods for applications using channel switch frames

This disclosure describes frame interpolation techniques within a wavelet transform coding scheme. The frame interpolation may be used to generate one or more interpolated frames between two successive low frequency frames coded according to the wavelet transform coding scheme. Such interpolation may be useful to increase the frame rate of a multimedia sequence that is coded via wavelet transforms. Also, the techniques may be used to interpolate lost frames, e.g., which may be lost during wireless transmission.
