A method for determining a three-dimensional form of a body from two-dimensional projection images includes producing at least one projection image of the body and producing corresponding model projection images from a generic model of the body. The body projection images and the model can be input into a computer-assisted processing unit and the generic model can be adjusted to the body by comparing image contents of the body projection images with the model projections images at a two-dimensional level only. The three-dimensional form of the body can be determined from the adjusted generic model.

A system for positioning an implant includes a holding element for holding an implant. The holding element can include a first end having a grip and a second end having a connecting element for establishing a connection to the implant. The system includes a guiding sleeve for guiding the holding element. The guiding sleeve defines a guiding area for guiding the holding element, where the holding element can be introduced into the guiding sleeve and a method for calibrating an element includes connecting the element to at least one navigation element and placing the element in contact with a calibrating device. A method for displaying images in a medical navigation system assisted by x-ray images includes calibrating an x-ray device in the medical navigation system and producing a plurality of two-dimensional x-ray images of a patient using the x-ray device. During the producing step, positions of the x-ray device are determined using the medical navigation system in order to produce positional data. Data associated with the two-dimensional x-ray images is converted into three-dimensional data. The two-dimensional x-ray images, production information corresponding to the two-dimension x-ray images, and the three-dimensional data to the navigation system. At least the two-dimensional x-ray images are displayed on an image output of the medical navigation system.

A method for calibrating or registering a medical instrument or implant includes determining a spatial position of the instrument or implant and determining a relative position of the instrument or implant with respect to anatomical data. A spatial orientation of a multi-dimensionally formed, functional section of the instrument or implant is determined. A device for calibrating or registering a medical instrument or implant using a medical navigation system includes calibration aid, where the calibration aid includes a calibration section whose spatial orientation in said navigation system is known and on which a multi-dimensionally formed, functional section of the instrument or implant can be oriented.
