A multi-channel audio decoder for providing at least two output audio signals on the basis of an encoded representation is configured to render a plurality of decoded audio signals, which are obtained on the basis of the encoded representation, in dependence on one or more rendering parameters, to obtain a plurality of rendered audio signals. The multi-channel audio decoder is configured to derive one or more decorrelated audio signals from the rendered audio signals, and to combine the rendered audio signals, or a scaled version thereof, with the one or more decorrelated audio signals, to obtain the output audio signals. A multi-channel audio encoder provides a decorrelation method parameter to control an audio decoder.

A decoder for generating an audio output signal having one or more audio output channels includes a receiving interface for receiving an audio input signal including a plurality of audio object signals, for receiving loudness information on the audio object signals, and for receiving rendering information indicating whether one or more of the audio object signals shall be amplified or attenuated. Moreover, the decoder includes a signal processor for generating the one or more audio output channels of the audio output signal. The signal processor is configured to determine a loudness compensation value depending on the loudness information and depending on the rendering information. Furthermore, the signal processor is configured to generate the one or more audio output channels of the audio output signal from the audio input signal depending on the rendering information and depending on the loudness compensation value. A multi-channel decorrelator for providing a plurality of decorrelated signals on the basis of a plurality of decorrelator input signals is configured to premix a first set of N decorrelator input signals into a second set of K decorrelator input signals, wherein K&#x3c;N. The multi-channel decorrelator is configured to provide a first set of K' decorrelator output signals on the basis of the second set of K decorrelator input signals. The multi-channel decorrelator is further configured to upmix the first set of K&#x2032; decorrelator output signals into a second set of N&#x2032; decorrelator output signals, wherein N&#x2032;&#x3e;K&#x2032;. The multi-channel decorrelator can be used in a multi-channel audio decoder. A multi-channel audio encoder provides complexity control information for the multi-channel decorrelator.

An apparatus for generating one or more audio output channels is provided. The apparatus includes a parameter processor for calculating output channel mixing information and a downmix processor for generating the one or more audio output channels. The downmix processor is configured to receive an audio transport signal including one or more audio transport channels, wherein two or more audio object signals are mixed within the audio transport signal, and wherein the number of the one or more audio transport channels is smaller than the number of the two or more audio object signals. The audio transport signal depends on a first mixing rule and on a second mixing rule. The first mixing rule indicates how to mix the two or more audio object signals to obtain a plurality of premixed channels. Moreover, the second mixing rule indicates how to mix the plurality of premixed channels.

An apparatus for decoding an encoded audio signal to obtain modified output signals includes an input interface for receiving a transmitted downmix signal and parametric data relating to audio objects included in the transmitted downmix signal, the downmix signal being different from an encoder downmix signal, to which the parametric data is related; a downmix modifier for modifying the transmitted downmix signal using a downmix modification function, wherein the downmix modification is performed in such a way that a modified downmix signal is identical to the encoder downmix signal or is more similar to the encoder downmix signal compared to the transmitted downmix signal; an object renderer for rendering the audio objects using the modified downmix signal and the parametric data to obtain output signals; and an output signal modifier for modifying the output signals using an output signal modification function.

An apparatus for adapting input audio information, encoding one or more audio objects, to obtain adapted audio information is provided. The input audio information includes two or more input audio downmix channels and further includes input parametric side information. The adapted audio information includes one or more adapted audio downmix channels and further includes adapted parametric side information. The apparatus includes a downmix signal modifier for adapting, depending on adaptation information, the two or more input audio downmix channels to obtain the one or more adapted audio downmix channels. Moreover, the apparatus includes a parametric side information adapter for adapting, depending on the adaptation information, the input parametric side information to obtain the adapted parametric side information.
