A method includes, based on respective signals acquired by a plurality of electrodes on an anatomical surface of a heart, computing respective local activation times (LATs) at respective locations of the electrodes. The method further includes, based on the LATs, computing respective directions of electrical propagation at the locations. The method further includes selecting pairs of adjacent ones of the electrodes such that, for each of the pairs, a vector joining the pair is aligned, to within a predefined threshold degree of alignment, with the direction of electrical propagation at the location of one of the electrodes belonging to the pair. The method further includes associating respective bipolar voltages measured by the pairs of electrodes with a digital model of the anatomical surface. Other examples are also described.

Computing local propagation velocities in real-time

A method includes receiving an anatomical mapping that includes multiple measurements acquired at multiple respective locations within an organ of a patient. An estimated surface of the organ is computed based on the measurements. A three-dimensional (3D) shell of the organ, which extends inwards from the estimated surface of the organ and has a predefined thickness, is defined. A quality of the anatomical mapping is estimated based on the measurements whose locations fall within the 3D shell.

Interactive anatomical mapping and estimation of anatomical mapping quality

A method includes, using anatomical data, calculating multiple cross-sectional shapes of a lumen of an organ in a body of a patient at multiple respective positions on a medial axis of the lumen. One or more of the positions on the medial axis are identified, at which a given expandable frame of a catheter would fit the cross-sectional shapes. The one or more identified positions are presented to a user.

A system and method for clustering wavefront signals in an electrophysiological map of a cardiac tissue are provided. The system and method include receiving an electrophysiological map of the cardiac tissue, displaying propagation of the wavefront signals as a plurality of velocity vectors, discretizing the received electrophysiological map into a plurality of sections, clustering the velocity vectors into at least one group within each section based on predefined criteria, and generating a trend line representative of each group of clustered velocity vectors within each section in the electrophysiological map.

Systems and methods for clustering wavefront signals in electrophysiological maps

A method includes inserting into a patient organ a catheter including a position sensor, a device and a handle. The position sensor is attached to a distal end of the catheter. The device is movable along the catheter. The handle includes a control for navigating the device along the catheter to a target location in the patient organ. Based on a location of the position sensor, a target position of the control on the handle that corresponds to the target location of the device is estimated. A marker is set to mark the target position of the control on the handle, and the device is navigated to the target location by setting the control to the marker.

Balloon positioning in a sinuplasty procedure

A method includes calculating a center-of-mass of a volume of an organ of a patient in a computerized anatomical map of the volume. A location is found on the anatomical map, on a surface of the volume, that is farthest from the center-of-mass. The location is identified as a known anatomical opening of the organ.

Post-mapping automatic identification of pulmonary veins

A method includes receiving one or more signals indicative of a position of a distal-end assembly of a medical probe within an organ of a patient. Based on the received signals, an inner volume that is confined within the distal-end assembly is determined. An anatomical map of the organ is updated, to denote the inner volume of the distal-end assembly as belonging to an interior of the organ.

Fast anatomical mapping (FAM) using volume filling

A method includes receiving a computerized tomography (CT) image comprising voxels of a body part of a subject, segmenting the image so as to identify a surface of a skin and a surface of a bone in the image, measuring respective minimum distances to the bone from a plurality of points on the surface of the skin, and rendering an image of the surface of the skin while visually coding the rendered image so as to indicate the respective minimum distances.

A method, consisting of receiving a computerized tomography scan of at least a part of a body of a patient, and identifying voxels of the scan that correspond to regions in the body that are traversable by a probe inserted therein. The method also includes displaying the scan on a screen and marking thereon selected start and termination points for the probe. A processor finds a path from the start point to the termination point consisting of a connected set of the identified voxels. The processor also uses the scan to generate a representation of an external surface of the body and displays the representation on the screen. The processor then renders an area of the external surface surrounding the path locally transparent in the displayed representation, so as to make visible on the screen an internal structure of the body in a vicinity of the path.

Methods, computing systems and computer software products implement embodiments of the present invention that include receiving, by a processor, respective coordinates for multiple points on a surface, and rendering an image of the surface on a display screen. For each given point among the multiple points, a density of the points within a region surrounding the given point is computed, and the given point on the surface with a point size that is inversely related to the computed density is rendered on the display screen.

Described embodiments include a system that includes a display and a processor. The processor is configured to position an indicator, in response to a positioning input from a user, over a particular point on a three-dimensional electroanatomical map that is displayed on the display, and over which are displayed a plurality of markers that mark respective data points. The processor is further configured to expand a contour, subsequently, along a surface of the map, while a selecting input from the user is ongoing, such that all points on the contour remain equidistant, at an increasing geodesic distance with respect to the surface, from the particular point, and to display, on the display, one or more properties of each of the data points that is marked by a respective one of the markers that is inside the contour. A method for visualizing ablation includes displaying to a user a three-dimensional (3D) tube that visually represents a region for ablation in tissue of a patient. Ablation information, which specifies one or more ablation locations along the 3D tube and one or more respective ablation configurations for ablating in the ablation locations, is received from the user. An estimated impact of the ablation in the tissue is displayed to the user on the 3D tube based on the ablation locations and the corresponding ablation configurations.
