Moldable bone implants for use in a bone defect or wound include a plurality of biocompatible granules and a biocompatible polymer that together form an implant mass. The polymer is softened with a plasticizer to make the implant mass moldable. The plasticizer can dissipate or be extracted to cause the implant mass to harden. The implant mass can be shaped in-situ or ex-situ. Implants formed in-situ are shaped by the bone defect or wound. The implant becomes hard through contact with body fluids, which extracts the plasticizer from the implant mass. Bone implants formed ex-situ, such as in a mold, are shaped by a mold, for example, and then hardened by placing the implant mass in contact with a hardening agent, such as water, which extracts the plasticizer from the implant mass. The shaped, hardened implant can be placed into a bone defect of corresponding size and shape.

Biocompatible bone implant compositions and methods for repairing a bone defect

A biocompatible and biodegradable implant for a cavity in a bone of a living organism is made of biocompatible and biodegradable granules. The biocompatible and biodegradable granules are provided with a coating, which includes at least one layer of a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer. The biocompatible and biodegradable implants are obtained by fusing together the polymer-coated granules through polymer-linkage of the polymer coatings of neighboring granules.

Porous biocompatible implant material and method for its fabrication

There is described a biocompatible implant for the filling of a cavity in a living organism such as, for example, a bone defect or an extraction wound, comprising an open porous scaffold and/or a composite matrix comprising a plurality of inorganic or synthetic granules and a synthetic polymer matrix, and further comprising a biodegradable membrane which is interconnectibly sealed to a surface portion of the scaffold or composite matrix such, that the scaffold or composite matrix and the membrane form a single piece of matter. In one embodiment, the implant is biodegradable.
