Herein disclosed is an x-ray florescence (XRF) test system which comprises an XRF test instrument used for testing a test target's responses to X-rays, the instrument including a test window allowing the X-ray and its responsive energy to pass through, and a window protecting film assembly allowing X-rays to pass through and providing protection to the window, the film assembly being configured to be coupled with the window in a fashion to be removed from or applied or reapplied over the window. The corresponding calibration mode can be manually or automatically applied according to the specific film assembly presently in use. An embodiment of the film assembly comprises a thin film fixed with an adhesive layer to a supporting frame having a closely spaced array of apertures.

Disclosed is a method and system which efficiently and accurately identifies an acoustic wedge by as simple as pressing a button to execute a command for a phased array inspection system, once the wedge is engaged with the system. It is based on the approach to use the time of flight that ultrasonic signals travel in the wedge to measure and calculate critical parameters, such as the wedge acoustic velocity, the wedge or incident angle and the height of the first element of the associated phased array probe above the base of the wedge.

Method and system for automatic wedge identification for an ultrasonic inspection system

An ultrasonic probe suited for testing the integrity of sheet metal surfaces around fastener openings is provided with means to center the probe over such openings. Both a mechanical centering rod and an electronic display assist the user in centering such probe. Once positioned within tolerance limits, phased array ultrasonic beams search for defects within the metal surfaces, allowing for residual offsets in the centering of the probe. Also described are test fixtures for calibrating the probe.
