To recognize an authorized user from an unauthorized user of a portable electronic apparatus, the portable electronic apparatus has a plurality of sensors and a user-recognition circuit. The sensors are each configured to generate a signal representative of a respective physical quantity associated with the use, by a user, of the portable electronic apparatus in an operating state. The user-recognition circuit is configured to receive a plurality of electrical signals from the plurality of sensors; determine a plurality of recognition parameters, each associated with a specific mode of use of the portable electronic apparatus by the user; determine a plurality of indicators of use, one for each recognition parameter, wherein each parameter indicates the probability that, at a time instant, the respective recognition parameter is associable with an unauthorized user; determine a probability of intrusion from the plurality of indicators of use; and compare the probability of intrusion with an intrusion threshold.

Recognition of unauthorized access of a portable electronic apparatus

A road condition detection device, to be coupled to the wheel of a vehicle, is provided with: an electrostatic charge variation sensor, to provide a charge variation signal indicative of an electrostatic charge variation associated with the rotation of the wheel; and a processing unit, coupled to the electrostatic charge variation sensor to receive the charge variation signal and furthermore for receiving a rotation speed signal indicative of the rotation speed of the wheel. In particular, the processing unit jointly processes the rotation speed signal and the charge variation signal to detect a road condition of a wet road condition and a dry road condition.

A wearable device includes an accelerometer, at least three electrodes to detect electromyography signal, a communication circuitry, and a processor circuitry. A user wears a primary and a secondary wearable device on two limbs. When the user performs a two-hand gesture, the wearable devices detect a primary and a secondary movement pattern. The primary device recognizes the two-hand gesture from the primary and secondary movement pattern.

A sensor device includes a passive infrared sensor, a control circuit, and a lens that directs infrared radiation onto the passive infrared sensor. The lens includes an obstruction that asymmetrically blocks transmission of infrared radiation through the lens. The control circuit is configured to determine the direction of crossing of individuals passing in front of the sensor device based on sensor signals from the passive infrared sensor.

The processing unit is configured to acquire the charge-variation signal, detect a first sub-portion of signal that identifies a basic movement of the swimming activity in the charge-variation signal, store the first sub-portion of signal in the buffer, compute an auto-correlation between the first sub-portion of signal stored in the buffer and a second sub-portion of signal of the charge-variation signal, and detect the presence of the basic movement in the second sub-portion of signal based on a result of the auto-correlation.

Wearable system and method for sensing and monitoring a swimming activity of a user

A device for monitoring the health state is made in a chip including a semiconductor die integrating an electric potential sensor and a cardiac parameter determination unit. The potential sensor is configured to detect potential variations on the body of a living being and associated with a heart rhythm and to generate a cardiac signal. The cardiac parameter determination unit is configured to receive the cardiac signal and determine cardiac parameters indicative of a health state. In particular, the cardiac parameter determination unit is configured to detect triggering events and to determine features of the cardiac signal in time windows defined by the triggering events. The die also integrates a decision unit, configured to receive the cardiac parameters and generate a health signal based on a comparison with threshold values. The cardiac parameters include heart rate and QRS-complex.

Health state monitoring device and method

A device including a sensor is disclosed. In one embodiment, the sensor includes a thermal infrared sensor or a sensor based on CMOS-SOI-MEMS technology (also referred to as 'TMOS'). The sensor is capable of performing at least two functions at the same time. The first is remote temperature measurement and the second is presence detection. An analysis method of a device through a MEMS sensor is provided in which the MEMS sensor includes a control unit and a sensing assembly coupled to the device. The analysis method includes acquiring, through the sensing assembly, first data indicative of an operative state of the device. Testing is performed for the presence of a first abnormal operating condition of the device. If the first abnormal operating condition of the device is confirmed, a self-test of the sensing assembly is performed to generate a quantity indicative of an operative state of the sensing assembly. The self-test includes acquiring, through the sensing assembly, second data indicative of the operative state of the sensing assembly, generating a signature according to the second data, and processing the signature through deep learning techniques to generate said quantity.

A control method of an apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a control unit coupled to a proximity sensor to detect a first distance of a user in a field of view, and coupled to a charge variation sensor to detect an electric/electrostatic charge variation caused by the user in a detection region. The control method includes acquiring a charge variation signal and generating charge variation parameters as a function of the charge variation signal.
