A system and method are disclosed for media item matching using search query analysis. In an implementation, the method includes identifying, by a processing device, a first media item that has been removed from a media hosting platform due to a removal request associated with a reference media item of a first media owner; identifying, by the processing device, a search query corresponding to the first media item based on a history of search queries, wherein a search result of the search query included the first media item; obtaining, by the processing device, one or more additional media items included in the search result of the search query; and providing the one or more additional media items to the first media owner to determine whether to initiate one or more actions regarding the one or more additional media items.

Media item matching using search query analysis

A system and method for detection of media items matching is disclosed. A method may include determining that a first media item associated with a media item owner is to be used as a reference media item to detect other media items matching the reference media item, detecting a subsequently uploaded media item that includes at least a threshold portion of the reference media item, and providing a graphical user interface (GUI) for presentation to the media item owner, the GUI including a media identifier associated with the subsequently uploaded media item and one or more actions to be initiated by the media item owner with respect to the subsequently uploaded media item.

Proactive detection of media item matching

A system and method for detection of media items matching is disclosed. In an implementation, the method includes identifying a first media item associated with a channel of a first user; determining whether the first media item qualifies as a candidate reference media item based on properties of the first media item and the channel; analyzing content of the first media item to determine whether a first threshold amount of frames of the first media item does not match with any frame of any previously uploaded media item; selecting the first media item as a reference media item; detecting a subsequently uploaded media item that includes at least a second threshold portion of the reference media item; and providing a graphical user interface (GUI) for presentation to the first user, the GUI including the subsequently uploaded media item and one or more actions to be initiated by the first user.

A content hosting system determines whether or not to remove media content items that use, either in whole or in part, media content of other media content items. The media content items are uploaded or otherwise added to the system by different owners. To correctly make this determination appropriately, the content hosting system adopts a two-step process. First, for a given probe media content item, the content hosting system identifies reference media content items of which reference media content is reused in the probe media content item. Second, the content hosting system evaluates whether or not the probe media content item should be removed. To make this evaluation, the content hosting system uses contextual information such as characteristics associated with a reference media content item and the probe media content item.
