A solution is proposed for managing containers isolating corresponding application environments from one or more shared operating systems in a computing system. One or more relevant groups are determined among one or more candidate groups (each comprising private data in common among a plurality of the containers); the candidate groups are determined according to corresponding access commands submitted by the containers and the relevant groups are determined according to one or more relevance policies. The private data of the relevant groups are consolidated into corresponding shared data.

Sharing of data among containers running on virtualized operating systems

A method, computer system, and a computer program product for authenticating a user in a computing system is provided. A corresponding method comprises validating one or more user snapshots of the user that should have been acquired in corresponding acquisition conditions according to their match with the corresponding acquisition conditions; the user snapshots are then sent (at least in part) to one or more authenticators requesting them to identify the user. A computer program and a computer program product for performing the method are also proposed. Moreover, a corresponding system is proposed.

Maintaining a plurality of software instances of a software program in a computing environment. An updating request is received for an updating process of the software instances from an old level to a new level. An attempt is made to update each software instance to the new level according to at least one updating policy. Responsive to a failure of the updating of each failed instance of the software instances, an exchanging instance is searched among the other software instances according to at least one searching policy, the exchanging instance being adapted to be exchanged with the failed instance for continuing the updating process according to at least one optimization criterion of the computing environment. The failed instance and the exchanging instance are exchanged in response to a positive result of the searching. The updating process corresponding to the failed instance is resumed.

Collaborative maintenance of software programs

Mechanisms are provided for executing a batch job associated with a mobile device. A batch job data structure is retrieved that defines a batch job having a plurality of operations to be executed and a scheduling rule having one or more criteria is retrieved. The one or more criteria comprises at least one of a geographical position criteria or a geographical movement criteria for defining a position or path of motion of the mobile device required for initiating execution of the batch job. A determination is made as to whether one of current or predicted future position or path of motion of the mobile device satisfies the criteria of the scheduling rule. In response to the current or predicted future position or path of motion of the mobile device satisfying the criteria of the scheduling rule, execution of the batch job is initiated.

A method () and a corresponding system for allocating resources in a hierarchical data processing system are proposed. The system includes a plurality of nodes that are arranged in a tree. Each leaf-node, or client, controls corresponding local resources, while each intermediate node, or domain manager, controls global resources that are visible to all its dependent nodes; the global resources defined on a root node, or master domain manager, are then visible to all the nodes of the system. Whenever a job, being submitted () on a generic client, requests a set of resources for its execution, the request is sent () through the tree to the master domain manager. The master domain manager allocates () the corresponding global resources as soon as they are all available; this event enables () its child node (in a path to the client) to perform the same operations, and so on down to the client itself. Once the client has allocated () the corresponding local resources, the execution of the job can be launched ().

Allocating resources across multiple nodes in a hierarchical data processing system according to a decentralized policy

Method and computer program product for mirroring an image according to internationalization information in an application supporting images. An initial image to be mirrored, which is described in a graphical format, is read. The image data is wrapped in a new image format by adding information about which area of the image is to be mirrored and how it is to be mirrored. A new image format library added to the application enables the application to read the new image format and transform the image according to the locale.
