A method can include acquiring data from a borehole imaging tool disposed in a borehole in a formation where the borehole includes electrically insulating oil-based fluid introduced into the borehole as a drilling lubricant; determining, based on the data, electrically insulating oil-based fluid impeditivity and a reference formation impeditivity via a circuit model that includes series and parallel terms; and detecting a location of a fracture in the formation based on a change in current flow from the tool through the electrically insulating oil-based fluid and into the formation by determining an effective formation impeditivity based on at least a portion of the data for the location and by comparing the effective formation impeditivity to the reference formation impeditivity.

Fracture characterization while drilling

The present disclosure relates to a method to determine a characteristic of a subsurface formation using electromagnetic coupling components. A downhole logging tool having one or more transmitters and one or more receivers, and being capable of measuring the electromagnetic coupling components is provided. The electromagnetic coupling components are measured using the downhole logging tool and used to form a 3-D Lateral Indicator and/or a 3-D Longitudinal Indicator. The 3-D Lateral Indicator and/or the 3-D Longitudinal Indicator are used to determine the characteristic of the subsurface formation.

Detection of 3D formation structures based on electro-magnetic coupling measurements

A method comprising: estimating a change in a characteristic of a subterranean formation into which a fluid has been injected via a well extending into the subterranean formation; building a multi-dimensional model balancing mass of the injected fluid, wherein the model is based on the estimated characteristic change; utilizing the model to determine the sensitivity of a borehole gravity tool in the well; measuring gravity with the borehole gravity tool at a plurality of stations along the well; and utilizing the model and the gravity measurements to locate the injected fluid in the subterranean formation.

Gravity interpretation workflow in injection wells

Method and system for visualizing one or more properties of a subterranean earth formation while drilling a borehole using probability information from a modeling process. Probability waveforms based on information from a plurality of borehole stations may be plotted, either alone or superimposed onto other graphical representations, to provide a visual display that is easily interpreted by a user to make geosteering decisions. The probability waveforms include peaked sections that are proportional to the amount of uncertainty or error associated with a boundary estimate at a particular distance from an axis of the borehole. By providing a visual display of the uncertainty, a user can make better geosteering decisions.
