A new system is described that is able to detect mechanical failures in a rotating shaft or shafts such as those which may be found in an aircraft or other mechanical device or vehicle. The system comprises a first accelerometer provided on the rotating shaft to be monitored and a reference accelerometer provided elsewhere. The system can compensate information received from these accelerometers so as to determine a fault in the rotating shaft that is being monitored.

A solid state power controller, SSPC, having an input to receive supply current and an output for providing output current to a load in response to connection to the power supply, the solid state power controller further comprising at least one solid state switch and a controller to limit the power dissipated in the solid state power switch based on a measured voltage across the solid state switch and a predetermined power dissipation threshold for the SSPC to adjust the output current or voltage control signal of the solid state switch such that the actual power dissipation of the SSPC does not exceed the threshold.

Inrush current limiting system and method

A method of controlling a power converter having a plurality of parallel-connected switching devices, the method comprising: measuring a threshold voltage of each of the parallel switching devices at start up of the parallel power converter in an initial self-calibration process; and determining synchronization of a time at which the threshold voltages of the respective switching devices occur.

Parallel switch current control

A power converter gate driver arrangement for providing a power output and a switching output for switching, in use, one or more switching devices, wherein the switching devices are controlled from a digital core via isolated point-to-point RF drivers. The gate driver uses UHF band technology to transmit both signal and power through a low capacitance single resonator by signal and power modulation. Power is transmitted in a continuous manner.

A motor system is disclosed comprising: an electrical conductor in the form of a coil or winding; an electrical insulator insulating the electrical conductor; a discharge sensor arranged and configured to measure a parameter indicative of an electrical current in the insulator; and a voltage controller for controlling a voltage signal applied to the electrical conductor based on a value of the parameter measured by the discharge sensor.
