A valve train assembly for an internal combustion engine includes: a dual body rocker arm for controlling a valve of a cylinder, the rocker arm including a first body, a second body mounted for pivotal motion with respect to the first body, a first biasing means, and a latch pin moveable between a first position in which the latch pin latches the first body and the second body together and a second position in which the first body and the second body are un-latched to allow pivotal motion of the second body relative to the first body; and an actuator arrangement external to the dual body rocker arm and drivable by an actuation source, the actuator arrangement moving the latch pin from one of the first position and the second position to the other of the first position to the second position.

Valve train assembly

A valve train assembly includes at least a number of exhaust valves; at least one camshaft with at least a pair of a primary lift cam and an engine brake lift cam. A number of rocker arms each include a cam follower for following one of the primary lift cam and the engine brake lift cam. One rocker arm includes a cam follower following an engine brake lift cam. The rocker arm is provided with an engine brake capsule. Various biasing assemblies are disclosed that cooperate with one of the rocker arms of which the cam follower follows an engine brake lift cam to accommodate mechanical lash.

A valve train assembly includes: a first group of one or more dual body rocker arms and a second group of one or more dual body rocker arms, the first group for controlling one or more valves of a first cylinder and the second group for controlling one or more valves of a second cylinder, each of the dual body rocker arms including a first body, a second body, and a latching arrangement for latching and unlatching the first body and the second body; and an actuator arrangement external to the dual body rocker arms for controlling the latching arrangement, the actuator arrangement including a shaft having a first set of one or more cams for controlling the latching arrangements of the first group of one or more dual body rocker arms and a second set of one or more cams for controlling the latching arrangements of the second group.

A valve control device for an internal combustion engine with an engine valve and a camshaft having a cam profile including a first lift profile is disclosed. The device includes a first body and second body. The device is configurable in first and second configurations. When in the first configuration, relative movement between the first and second body, caused when said first lift profile engages a cam engagement surface, inhibits a valve actuating linkage from actuating said engine valve. Embodiments of the device include a means which, when in the second configuration, prevents relative movement between the first and second bodies when the first lift profile engages the cam engagement surface to enable the valve actuating linkage to actuate said engine valve, and when the device is in the second configuration, the means may be arranged so substantially all of the force exerted as the valve is actuated is compressive.

Lost motion valve control apparatus

A deactivating valve control system for an internal combustion engine and, for each deactivating intake poppet valve (D), there is provided a deactivating lash compensation device (). Each of the devices () includes a latch member () biased toward an unlatched condition (FIG.) by a spring memberincluding a vertically-extending spring portion (). In one embodiment (FIG.), the deactivation system includes an actuation rod () which is rotated to overcome the biasing force of the spring members () and move the latch members () into latching engagement (FIG.). In another embodiment (FIG.), an actuation wire () is reciprocated linearly to pivot a lever member () associated with each deactivating device (), again to overcome the spring () and move the latch member () into latching engagement.
