A composition suitable for use in pressure pipes and pipe fittings is disclosed comprising polymer of ethylene and from 0.5 to 5 wt % of a C-Calpha-olefin which has a natural density of 935-956 kg/m, a melt index MIof 0.15-0.5 g/10 min, a dynamic complex viscosity at 100 rad/s and 190&#xb0; C. (&#x3b7;) of no more than 2500 Pa&#xb7;s, a relationship between &#x3b7;and dynamic complex viscosity measured in Pa&#xb7;s at 0.01 rad/s and 190&#xb0; C. (&#x3b7;) defined by the equation &#x3b7;&#x3e;115000+30. &#x3b7;, and an environmental stress crack resistance as measured by a notched pipe test performed according to ISO13479:1997 on 110 mm SDR 11 pipes at 80&#xb0; C. and a pressure of 9.2 bar, of greater than 1000 hours, or: wherein the C-Calpha-olefin is 1-hexene or 1-octene.

Ethylene polymer composition

A polyethylene resin comprising from 44 to 55 wt % of a high molecular weight polyethylene fraction, and from 45 to 56 wt % of a low molecular weight polyethylene fraction; the high molecular weight polyethylene fraction comprising a linear low density polyethylene having a density of from 0.913 to 0.923 g/cm, and an HLMI of from 0.02 to 0.2 g/10 min; and the low molecular weight polyethylene fraction comprising a high density polyethylene having a density of at least 0.969 g/cmand an MIof greater than 100 g/10 min; wherein the relationship between the density D of the resin in g/cmand the weight fraction of the low molecular weight fraction Pis defined by 0.055P+0.916&#x3c;D&#x3c;0.034P+0.937.

Polyethylene pipe resins

An ethylene polymer composition having a density of at least 950 kg/m, a fluidity index MIof 0.05 to 2 g/10 min and a content of alpha-olefin containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms of from 0.15 to 1 mole %, containing from 53 to 63% by weight based on the total weight of the composition of an ethylene polymer fraction (A) having a fluidity index MIof at least 100 g/10 min a density of at least 969 kg/mand a molecular weight distribution M/Mgreater than 4, and from 37 to 47% by weight based on the total weight of the composition of a copolymer fraction (B) of ethylene and from 0.32 to 2.7 mole % of at least one alpha-olefin containing from 4 to 10 carbon atoms, a fluidity index MIto 0.001 to 0.5 g/10 min, a density of no more than 930 kg/mand a molecular weight distribution M/Mgreater than 4, wherein the ratio of the MIof fraction (A) to the MIof fraction (B) is greater than 20,000.

A polyethylene resin comprising a blend of from 35 to 49 wt % of a first polyethylene fraction of high molecular weight and 51 to 65 wt % of a second polyethylene fraction of low molecular weight, the first polyethylene fraction comprising a linear low density polyethylene having a density of up to 0.928 g/cm, and an HLMI of less than 0.6 g/10 min and the second polyethylene fraction comprising a high density polyethylene having a density of at least 0.969 g/cm, and an MIof greater than 100 g/10 min, and the polyethylene resin, having a density of greater than 0.951 g/cmand an HLMI of from 1 to 100 g/10 min.

Polyethylene pipe resins and production thereof

A polyethylene resin comprising from 35 to 49 wt. % of a first polyethylene fraction of high molecular weight and from 51 to 65 wt. % of a second polyethylene fraction of low molecular weight, the first polyethylene having a density of up to 0.930 g/cm, and an HLMI of less than 0.6 g/10 min and the second polyethylene fraction comprising a high density polyethylene having a density of at least 0.969 g/cmand an MIof greater than 10 g/10 min, and the polyethylene resin, having a density of great 0.946 g/cm, an HLMI of from 1 to 100 g/10 min, a dynamical viscosity, measured at 0.01 radians/second, greater than 200,000 Pa.s and a ratio of the dynamical viscosities measured at, respectively 0.01 and 1 radians/second greater than 8.

The invention concerns a method for producing ethylene homopolymers or copolymers comprising at least 90 mol % of units derived from ethylene which consists in: contacting in polymerising conditions, the monomers with a catalytic system including: (a) a catalytic solid comprising a metallocene of a transition metal of groups 4 to 6 of the periodic table containing at least a cyclopentadiene ligand capable of being substituted and a support, (b) at least an organoaluminium compound selected among compounds of general formula (1): AlT (Y&prime;) X&prime; wherein: T is a hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 30 carbon atoms; Y&prime; is a group selected among &mdash;OR&prime;, &mdash;SR&prime; and NR&prime;R&Prime; with R&prime; and R&Prime; independently representing a hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 30 carbons atoms; X&prime; is a halogen atom: x verifies the relationship 0<x&lE;3; y verifies the relationship 0&lE;y<3; z verifies the relationship 0&lE;2<3, and x&plus;y&plus;z&equals;3, and (c) at least an ionic antistatic agent.
