An electrosurgical instrument with at least one active electrode for effecting an electrosurgical treatment with an instrument data memory. Furthermore, the electrosurgical instrument has a connector for a connecting cable or a connected connecting cable including supply lines for supplying the active electrode with a high-frequency alternating current required for an electrosurgical treatment. The instrument data memory has at least one read-write area to which usage and status data can be written by an electrosurgical generator.

Disclosed herein are a method and a system for supporting HF and/or US surgical procedures which are carried out using a plurality of HF and/or US surgical instruments. HF and/or US generators are capable of supplying HF and/or US power to the surgical instruments in HF and/or US modes with predetermined operating parameter sets. The generators can be equipped with a measuring device designed to measure electrical properties of treated tissue. The method can include recording and temporarily storing data in the generators, transferring the data to a central analysis device, storing and analyzing the data in the central analysis device, and as a result of the analysis, adapting or rejecting an existing HF and/or US mode, generating a new HF and/or US mode, checking and optionally adapting a laboratory test for relevance to a practical application, and introducing a new laboratory test for a previously unknown surgical state.

Method and system for supporting HF and/or US surgical procedures and software program product

An electrosurgical generator with a high-voltage power supply that supplies a DC output voltage receives the DC output voltage of the high-voltage power supply and generates a high-frequency AC output voltage. When generator is operating, a control unit receives signals from an AC output voltage measuring unit and current measuring unit. The control unit limits an increase of DC output voltage of the high-voltage power supply as soon one predefined maximum value is reached or exceeded. When the generator is operating, the control unit configured to receive signals from a DC output voltage measuring unit that represent a respective current value of the DC output voltage, and to compare a respective current value of DC output voltage with a predefined minimum value for DC output voltage, and to cause the DC output voltage of the high-voltage power supply to increase as soon as it falls below the predefined minimum value.
