Reinforcements such as, for example, carbon fibers, are coated with a poly(arylene sulfide). The poly(arylene sulfide) is cured in place on the reinforcement. The reinforcement can be used in compositions such as, for example, poly(arylene sulfide) compositions.

Polymer-coated reinforcements

The incorporation of a metal oxide into a specific ethylene polymer-based molding composition reduces or eliminates the formation of bubbles during molding.

Molding of polymers

A porous web-like substrate is treated with an adhesive containing a filler which increases the viscosity of the adhesive thereby inhibiting flow of the adhesive through the pores of the substrate, and increases the amount of the adhesive retained on the surface of the substrate. In a preferred embodiment a high surface area siliceous material is added to a carboxylated styrenebutadiene latex adhesive to improve adhesion of porous substrates.

Adhesive formulation improved with solid fillers

Poly(ether esters) are prepared by reacting a phthalic acid salt with a di(haloalkyl) ether in a polar solvent using a phosphonium salt catalyst. The resulting poly(ether esters) are useful in olefin polymers to improve dye receptivity.
