A magneto-caloric cooling system includes an energy absorption area configured to be thermally coupled to a thermal energy absorbing device. At least one energy dissipation area is configured to be thermally coupled to a thermal energy dissipation device. A thermal energy transfer device is configured to be cycled between the energy absorption area and the energy dissipation area. A magnetic field generation device is configures to produce a magnetic field proximate the energy dissipation area.

Magneto-caloric cooling system

A magneto-caloric cooling system includes an energy absorption area configured to be thermally coupled to a thermal energy absorbing device. At least one energy dissipation area is configured to be thermally coupled to a thermal energy dissipation device. A thermal energy transfer device is configured to be cycled between the energy absorption area and the energy dissipation area. A magnetic field generation device is configured to produce a magnetic field proximate the energy dissipation area.

A cable routing system includes a longitudinally-expanding body positionable within an IT rack having a frame and two or more NEMA rails coupled to the frame. A pair of mounting brackets are positioned proximate each distal end of the longitudinal-expanding body and configured to directly engage the frame of the IT rack. A cable routing tray is longitudinally affixed to the longitudinally-expanding body and configured to rout cables longitudinally along at least a portion of the longitudinally-expanding body. Described are a system and method for improving the performance of a disk drive in a data storage system by enabling the disk drive to 'ride through' events that can induce disk drive errors. In response to an error message received from a disk drive, a disk director temporarily places the disk drive into a wait state. While in the wait state, the disk drive is prevented from shutting down, despite the current error and any subsequent errors that the disk drive may experience. The disk drive may continue to service I/O requests while in the wait state, with the disk director monitoring the disk drive performance. After the disk drive exits the wait state, the disk director can determine from the monitored results whether to shut down the disk drive or to permit the disk drive to return to normal operation.

System and method for improving disk drive performance during high frequency vibration conditions

A data storage system has a first set of storage devices, a second set of storage devices, and a controller. The controller is arranged to (i) activate a first set of storage devices and deactivate a second set of storage devices prior to an amount of storage capacity currently used in the data storage system reaching a predefined storage capacity threshold of the data storage system. The controller is further arranged to (i) monitor the amount of storage capacity currently used in the data storage system in view of the predefined storage capacity threshold, and (ii) maintain activation of the first set of storage devices and automatically activate the second set of storage devices in response to the amount of storage capacity currently used in the data storage system reaching the predefined storage capacity threshold.

Described are seismic-resistant equipment cabinets and door latches for enabling a hinged door to remain attached to the cabinet during a seismic event of a particular intensity. The door has a latch disposed along one edge of the door. The latch includes a latch-keeper receptacle and a latching bolt disposed in the latch-keeper receptacle. The latching bolt is slideable between a latched and an unlatched position. The frame has a latch keeper assembly attached to an edge thereof. The latch keeper assembly is positioned to enter the latch-keeper receptacle when the door latches to the frame. The latch keeper assembly includes a protruding member having a tapered edge and a latching-bolt aperture to receive the latching bolt when in the latched position. The tapered edge establishes a close fit by the latch keeper assembly within the latch receptacle to limit relative motion therebetween during a seismic event.

An apparatus for attenuating noise emanating from a cabinet housing noise-generating equipment includes a frame including at least one support member configured to be mountable on the cabinet, proximate the noise-generating equipment, at least one noise attenuation device mounted to each support member proximate the noise-generating equipment, the at least one noise attenuation device comprising a sound input device for receiving a noise signal output from the noise-generating equipment, a processing device for determining characteristics of the noise signal and generating a cancellation signal which is identical to the noise signal but approximately 180 degrees out-of-phase with the noise signal, and a sound output device for outputting the cancellation signal proximate the noise-generating equipment, to attenuate the noise emanating from the cabinet; and a noise absorption member mounted on each support member, the noise absorption members define surfaces that form sides of airflow channels through the apparatus.

Method and system for attenuating noise from a cabinet housing computer equipment

A data storage subsystem is configured to mount within a rack mount cabinet. The data storage subsystem includes a housing configured to mount to a set of vertical rails of the rack mount cabinet, a set of circuit boards configured to install in a vertically aligned manner within the housing to define a set of vertically oriented channels within a central space defined by the set of vertical rails of the rack mount cabinet, and a fan assembly configured to mount to the set of vertical rails in a position above the housing to generate a vertical air stream through the set of vertically oriented channels and to exhaust the vertical air stream to an external location above the rack mount cabinet. The vertical air stream enables robust heat removal from the set of circuit boards even if the rack mount cabinet does not reside in a cold-isle environment.

An electronic system includes electronic circuitry having a first portion and a second portion, and an electronic cabinet assembly that houses the electronic circuitry. The electronic cabinet assembly includes a first cabinet that houses the first portion of the electronic circuitry and a second cabinet that houses the second portion of the electronic circuitry. The first cabinet includes a first frame and a first set of exterior members that mounts to the first frame. Similarly, the second cabinet including a second frame and a second set of exterior members that mounts to the second frame. The electronic cabinet assembly further includes a set of connecting members that connects to (i) the first frame of the first cabinet and (ii) the second frame of the second cabinet to hold the first frame and the second frame side-by-side and rigidly in place relative to each other.

Frame connecting techniques for use in electronic systems

An electronic system has electronic circuitry and an electronic cabinet that houses the electronic circuitry. The electronic cabinet includes a frame that holds the electronic circuitry, a set of exterior members that mounts to the frame, and a stabilization assembly. The stabilization assembly has a base portion that attaches to the frame of the electronic cabinet in order to support the frame of the electronic cabinet over a floor surface, a pedestal portion, and a positioner. The positioner is configured to position the pedestal portion of the stabilization assembly relative to the frame such that the pedestal portion of the stabilization assembly is substantially wider than the frame along a particular direction when the pedestal of the stabilization assembly portion resides in an operating position relative to the frame. The pedestal portion can prevent the electronic cabinet from inadvertently being knocked over if pushed in the particular direction.
