A method includes identifying interference mitigation capabilities of a first communication unit in a first cell of a cellular communication network. Transmissions of a second communication unit in a second cell of the cellular communication network are scheduled based on the identified interference mitigation capabilities of the first communication unit in the first cell.

Optimized cellular transmission scheduling based on knowledge of interference-mitigation capabilities in neighbor cell

A method for communication includes, in a transmitter, generating a signal for transmission to a receiver over a frequency sub-band assigned within a predefined system bandwidth, using a selected transmitter carrier frequency. The signal is converted into a phase-compensated signal by applying to the signal, using a phase compensator in the transmitter, a phase compensation that compensates for phase discontinuities caused to the signal due to a frequency difference between the transmitter carrier frequency and a center frequency, which is used by the receiver for down-converting the predefined system bandwidth. The phase compensation depends on the frequency difference. The phase-compensated signal is transmitted to the receiver over the frequency sub-band, using a transmitter front-end module.

Phase continuity in narrow-band transmission within a frequency-domain multiple-access communication system

A method in a receiver includes receiving from a transmitter a signal including at least first and second frames that carry same data. First and second data symbols are identified in the respective first and second frames, wherein the first symbol has a same data value as the second data symbol. A frequency offset between the transmitter and the receiver is estimated based at least on the identified first and second data symbols. A frequency of the receiver is adjusted based on the estimated frequency offset.

Receiver with data-aided automatic frequency control

A method includes, in a receiver, receiving a signal carrying data using multiple antennas, so as to produce multiple respective input signals. The input signals are divided into two or more subsets. The input signals within each of the subsets are combined in a first diversity-combining stage, to produce respective intermediate signals. In a second diversity-combining stage, the intermediate signals are combined to produce an output signal. The output signal is decoded so as to reconstruct the data carried by the received signal.

Low-complexity communication terminal with enhanced receive diversity

A method in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transmitter includes selecting a transmission mode from a group of modes including a spatial multiplexing mode and a transmit diversity mode. A rate matching parameter is set depending on at least the selected transmission mode. Data for transmission is formatted in one or more transport blocks, each transport block including multiple code blocks having respective lengths, in symbols, that are respective integer multiples of the rate matching parameter. The code blocks of a given transport block are mapped onto time-frequency resource elements in accordance with the selected transmission mode, such that each resource element contains data originating from only a respective one of the code blocks of the given transport block. The code blocks of the given transport block are transmitted over the time-frequency resource elements to a receiver.

Transmission-mode-aware rate matching in MIMO signal generation

A method includes receiving reference signals in a mobile communication terminal, the mobile communication terminal being designed to receive data-carrying signals that are transmitted from a base station using one of multiple predefined Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCSs). Based on the received reference signals, using processing circuitry in the terminal, effective Signal to Noise Ratios (SNRs) are calculated for the MCSs in a predefined partial subset of the MCSs that does not include all MCSs. The effective SNRs, for the MCSs that are not part of the predefined partial subset, are estimated by interpolating among two or more calculated effective SNR measures of the MCSs in the predefined partial subset using an interpolation function. Channel feedback is calculated based on the calculated effective SNRs and the estimated effective SNRs. The channel feedback is transmitted from the terminal, for use in transmitting the data carrying signals from the base station.

Estimation of channel state information (CSI) feedback using interpolation

A method includes receiving a signal via multiple receive antennas. A noise covariance matrix, which indicates noise correlations between pairs of the receive antennas, is estimated. A stability criterion defined over the noise covariance matrix is evaluated, and the noise covariance matrix is modified when the stability criterion is violated. The received signal is processed using the modified noise covariance matrix.

Validation and stabilization of noise matrices

A method includes accepting input values u and v, respectively identifying a uroot Zadoff-Chu sequence whose length is a prime number, and a vcyclic shift for the sequence. Elements of a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) of the vcyclic shift of the uroot Zadoff-Chu sequence are computed using processing circuitry, by evaluating a single respective exponent depending on u and v in computing each of the elements.

Direct generation of discrete Fourier transforms of time-shifted Zadoff-Chu sequences

A method for communication includes configuring a communication system that includes a transmitter and a receiver with first precoding matrices for mapping up to N data streams onto N transmit antenna ports of the transmitter. Each of at least some of the first precoding matrices are derived from respective second and third precoding matrices. The second and third precoding matrices are configured for mapping data onto respective numbers of transmit antenna ports that are less than N. The data streams are mapped onto the N transmit antenna ports using a precoding scheme based on one of the first precoding matrices. The mapped data streams are transmitted over the N transmit antenna ports from the transmitter to the receiver.

Precoding codebooks for 4TX and 8TX MIMO communication systems

A method includes receiving reference signals in a mobile communication terminal, which is designed to receive data-carrying signals that are transmitted from a base station using one of multiple predefined Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCSs). One or more pre-calculated mappings between Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and error rate for one or more of the MCSs are held in the communication terminal. The pre-calculated mappings are adjusted according to one or more transmission parameters of the data-carrying signals. Measures indicative of respective actual spectral efficiencies that are achievable by the MCSs are estimated based on the adjusted mappings using the received reference signals. A preferred MCS is selected based on the estimated measures, and feedback that is indicative of the preferred MCS is sent to the base station.

Efficient estimation of channel state information (CSI) feedback

Apparatus includes a receiver and a processor. The receiver includes at least first and second processing chains. The processor is configured to select a mode from a set of modes and to operate the receiver in accordance with the selected mode. The set of modes includes a first mode and at least one of a second mode and a third mode. In the first mode the first processing chain is configured to receive and demodulate serving cell signals from at least one serving cell that serves the apparatus, and the second processing chain is configured to receive and measure signals from the one or more neighbor cells. In the second mode the first and second processing chains are configured to receive and demodulate the serving cell signals. In the third mode the first and second processing chains are configured to receive and measure the signals from the neighbor cells.

Techniques for accelerating cellular measurements

A method for communication includes modulating data in a wireless communication terminal to produce an aggregated-spectrum signal, which includes multiple component carriers in multiple respective spectral bands, each component carrier including a respective plurality of sub-carriers in respective frequency bins, wherein the component carriers are grouped in one or more groups. The modulated data in transmitted on the multiple component carriers at respective power levels. A single instruction, to set a power level of the component carriers in a given group, is received at the wireless communication terminal. The power level of the component carriers in the given group is set based on the single instruction, and while preserving relative power ratios among the sub-carriers within each of the component carriers.

Uplink power control in subcarrier-based aggregated spectrum systems

A method includes receiving a Multiple-Input Multiple Output (MIMO) signal over multiple communication channels from an antenna array including a first set of antennas having a first polarization and a second set of the antennas having a second polarization that is orthogonal to the first polarization. First feedback information is calculated relating to first interrelations between the antennas within either the first set or the second set. Second feedback information is calculated relating at least to second interrelations between the first set and the second set of the antennas. The first feedback information is transmitted at a first time/frequency granularity, and the second feedback information is transmitted at a second time/frequency granularity that is finer than the first time/frequency granularity.
