The present disclosure provides a vitreous visualization system including a general light source, a general conduit that transmits light from the general light source through a conduit portion of a general illumination optical fiber, and a combined vitreous visualization and general illumination tool that receives light from the general conduit. The combined vitreous visualization tool includes a vitreous visualization light source, a controller for the vitreous visualization light source, a vitreous visualization optical fiber, a tool portion of the general illumination optical fiber, and a probe tip through which at least parts of both the vitreous visualization optical fiber and the tool portion of the general illumination optical fiber pass.

Systems and methods using a vitreous visualization tool

An ophthalmic illumination system includes a light source generating a source light beam and a beam splitter splitting the source light beam into first and second light beams. A first attenuator is located in a path of the first light beam and a second attenuator is located in the path of the second light beam, the first and second attenuators operable to change the intensities of the first and second light beams, respectively. A first optical fiber port is configured for connection to a first optical fiber for delivering the first light beam to a patient's eye and a second optical fiber port is configured for connection to a second optical fiber for delivering the second light beam to the patient's eye. A control unit is communicatively coupled to the first and second attenuators and is operable to adjust the attenuators to control the intensities of the light beams delivered to the patient's eye.

An ophthalmic surgical system can include a light source configured to generate a light beam and a filter wheel disposed between the light source and an intraocular illumination device. The filter wheel can include an unfiltered area, a first filtered area, and a second filtered area. The first and second filtered areas can limit transmission of certain wavelengths of the light beam to the intraocular illumination device. The system can include an actuator configured to selectively move the filter wheel to cause the light beam to pass through the unfiltered area, the first filtered area, and/or the second filtered area. The system can include a computing device configured to provide a control signal to the actuator. The computing device can be configured to provide a control signal to the actuator based on a beam location, a beam composition, an exposure time, and/or a limited visibility condition.

According to certain embodiments, a method comprises disposing a first nanofiber portion of a nanofiber and a first assisting fiber portion of an assisting fiber into a ferrule of a connector. A second assisting fiber portion is heated. The nanofiber and assisting fiber are moved such that a portion of the heated assisting fiber portion is disposed within the ferrule. According to other embodiments, a method comprises placing a fiber within a ferrule of a connector having a fixed point such that a fiber center is a fiber distance away from a receptacle center. The fiber distance between the fiber center and receptacle center is measured. An angular offset between the fixed point and fiber center is measured about the receptacle center. A rotation angle for the fiber distance and angular offset is determined. The ferrule is rotated relative to the connector according to the rotation angle.
