According to an aspect of the invention a method for calibrating a measurement device is conceived wherein: a calibration device is brought into close proximity of the measurement device such that a data communication link is established between the measurement device and the calibration device; wherein the following steps are performed while the calibration device and the measurement device are in close proximity of each other: the calibration device performs a measurement of at least one physical phenomenon; the measurement device performs a measurement of the same physical phenomenon; the result of the measurement by the measurement device is compared with the result of the measurement by the calibration device; and calibration parameters are computed based on a difference between the result of the measurement by the measurement device and the result of the measurement by the calibration device.

According to an aspect of the invention a localization method for localizing a host device () in a control system, in particular a building control system, is provided, the localization method comprising determining geographical location information of the host device () by means of a localization device () and associating the geographical location information with a unique identifier of the host device (). According to an aspect of the invention a system for commissioning devices is provided, which system comprises: a first device and a second device; an RFID tag comprised in the first device; a host processor comprised in the first device; wherein the second device is arranged to generate an electromagnetic field; wherein the RFID tag is arranged to detect the electromagnetic field and to wake up the host processor upon detecting said electromagnetic field in order for the second device to communicate with the host processor. Furthermore, a corresponding method for commissioning devices is provided. Since the RFID tag comprised in the first device is arranged to wake up the host processor, an end-user does not have to switch on the first device manually. Therefore, the user interaction is simplified. Furthermore, there is no need for a separate power button on the first device. The latter reduces cost and simplifies the design of the first device.

The invention relates to manipulation of sub-pictures () in a picture such as a mosaic screen (). An apparatus comprises a sub-picture generator () connected to a mosaic screen generator (), which generates the mosaic screen () from the sub-pictures. The mosaic screen () is by a video compressor () divided into uncompressed picture blocks such that each block only comprise video data from one sub-picture. The picture blocks are compressed using a block compression scheme such as MPEG-2. The apparatus further comprises a video manipulation processor (), which manipulates the sub-pictures by manipulating the association between control data in the video signal and the compressed picture blocks. The video data of the compressed picture blocks are not affected whereby de-compression and new compression is avoided.

A method for controlling a controlled device is disclosed, wherein the controlled device has a host connection to an RFID tag, the method comprising the following steps: (s1) the controlled device writes operational parameters to the RFID tag through the host connection; (s2) a user interaction device reads the operational parameters from the RFID tag through an RFID connection; (s3) a user changes the operational parameters via a user interface comprised in the user interaction device; (s4) the user interaction device writes the operational parameters to the RFID tag through the RFID connection; (s5) the controlled device reads the operational parameters from the RFID tag through the host connection and adapts its behavior based on the operational parameters. A switch module is designed to facilitate user definition of a group of switch modules that control the same lamp. A lamp unit () containing the lamp responds selectively to messages from the switch modules (') when the messages comprise ID information matching with ID information stored in the lamp unit (). A group is formed by detecting user control operation of sensors () in the switch modules (&#x2032;), transmitting messages from the switch modules (&#x2032;) in response and determining from the messages whether the switch modules (&#x2032;) have both been operated within a time interval with a duration of less than a predetermined threshold. If so, the ID information value in memories () of the switch module () and/or the further switch module (&#x2032;) are set to matching ID values, for use in the messages to control the lamp unit.

A lamp is provided that is controlled by messages transmitted via a network. The lamp has an internal memory that stores an address and an internal control circuit that responds to received messages that refer to this address. The address is updated when the lamp is installation in a power supply socket, using for example an address from the first message that is transmitted after installation. The lamp contains a detector that detects disconnection of the lamp from the power supply socket, for example by monitoring a resistance value between two parts of one of the power supply terminals of the lamp. In response to this detection the control circuit of the lamp sets information that enables an update of the address in the memory. When it is detected that the lamp is again connected to a power supply socket the address is updated on condition that the update is enabled.

A method of performing a service scan for available channels across a bandwidth of an input signal, the method comprising the steps of: acquiring a power spectrum of the input signal bandwidth; analyzing the power spectrum to identify a list of candidate channels, each candidate channel being identified by at least a center frequency; processing each of the candidate channels in a receiver unit to extract service information, if present, relating to the candidate channel; and storing the service information for the channel in a memory.
