Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may identify channel responses between antenna elements of antenna arrays of the wireless device and user equipments (UEs) at geographic locations within a coverage area of the wireless device. For example, the wireless device may identify the channel responses based on reference signal transmissions between the UEs and the wireless device. The wireless device may process the channel responses to identify one or more directional power peaks associated with the reference signal transmissions. The wireless device may, based on the one or more directional power peaks, detect phase error values, amplitude error values, or both common to the channel responses. The wireless device may adjust the signal communicated via at least a subset of the antenna elements based on the phase error values, the amplitude error values, or both and communicate with one or more of the UEs.

Antenna element calibration algorithm

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, an apparatus may receive an indication of a selected digital pre-distortion (DPD) kernel from multiple DPD kernels. The apparatus may store multiple envelope values associated of with samples of an in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) signal and select a subset of envelope values based at least in part on the selected DPD kernel. The apparatus may generate, using the subset of envelope values and a look-up-table (LUT) component, an envelope computation value. The apparatus may store multiple computational values associated with the samples and select, based at least in part on the selected DPD kernel, at least one subset of computational values. The apparatus may generate an output sample that includes DPD based at least in part on combining the envelope computation value with the at least one subset of computational values. Numerous other aspects are described.

Adaptive digital pre-distortion

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for radar processing based on a combination of analog beamforming, digital beamforming, and virtual arrays are described. In certain embodiments, a radar receiver receives signals simultaneously transmitted, i.e., concurrently, from a radar transmitter. Each transmitted signal corresponds to the same transmit signal, but with a respective phase being applied. The radar receiver generates, based on the received signals, a virtual array response corresponding to an array of virtual antennas. The virtual array response covers a subset of directions within a field of view to be scanned. In some embodiments, the transmissions from the radar transmitter are generated using analog beamforming, and the virtual array response generated using digital beamforming. In other embodiments, the transmissions from the radar transmitter are generated using digital beamforming, and the virtual array response generated using analog beamforming.

Hybrid multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar system

A base station includes an array of transceiver chains, each characterized by a bandwidth and including a transmit chain and a receive chain. The base station determines, at each center frequency and sub-bandwidth covering the bandwidth: a first set of interchain transmit gain and phase/delay differences across transmit chains; and a first set of interchain receive gain and phase/delay differences across the receive chains. The base station then determines, in a same manner as the first determining: a second set of inter-chain transmit differences; and a second set of inter-chain receive differences. The base station adjusts each transmit chain by the difference between the second set of inter-chain transmit differences and the first set of inter-chain transmit differences. The base station adjust each receive chain by the difference between the second set of inter-chain receive differences and the first set of inter-chain receive differences.

Beamforming calibration

Power saving techniques for radar-based proximity sensing can include conducting proximity scans with a radar system in an omnidirectional proximity sensing mode in which signals are transmitted without directionality. Once an object is detected within a threshold proximity, the radar system can then switch to a directional proximity sensing mode to provide accurate directional detection capabilities in a desired field of view (FOV).

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a device may receive layout information that identifies a configuration of an antenna array of antennas, wherein the antenna array is to include a plurality of antenna subarrays and a plurality of antenna chips, wherein each antenna chip is communicatively coupled to antennas of an associated antenna subarray; determine, based at least in part on a phase shift characteristic associated with the antennas, a set of phase differences between antenna subarrays; determine, based at least in part on the set of phase differences, a chip position of each antenna chip relative to the associated antenna subarray; and generate, based at least in part on the chip position of each antenna chip, a layout of an antenna package to receive the antenna array and the plurality of antenna chips. Techniques for performing gesture recognition with an electronic device are disclosed where the electronic device has a wireless communications capability using beamforming techniques and includes a plurality of millimeter wave antenna modules, each antenna module including at least one transmit antenna and at least one receive antenna, the antennas being operable in one or more frequency ranges greater than 20 GHz. Performing gesture recognition includes: simultaneous operation of the at least one transmit antenna and the at least one receive antenna so as to provide a radar capability; and detecting a presence and motion of a reflective object by analyzing magnitude and phase of signals received by the at least one receive antenna and resulting from reflection of signals transmitted by the transmit antenna and reflected by the reflective object.

Gesture detection in interspersed radar and network traffic signals

A transceiver having a virtual array is disclosed that includes a transmit antenna array and a receive antenna array. The transmit antennas are spaced apart by a transmit array spacing. Similarly, the receive antennas are spaced apart by a receive array spacing. One of the receive and transmit arrays has more antenna elements than a ratio of either the transmit array spacing divided by the receive array spacing or of the receive array spacing divided by the transmit array spacing.

Tapering for MIMO

Disclosed are techniques for liveliness detection. In an aspect, a radar sensor of an electronic device transmits a radar frame comprising a plurality of bursts, each burst comprising a plurality of radar pulses, and receives a plurality of reflected radar pulses. The electronic device generates a radar image representing azimuth, elevation, range, and slow time measurements for the radar frame based on the plurality of reflected pulses, applies a Doppler FFT to the radar image to convert the radar image to represent azimuth, elevation, range, and velocity measurements for the radar frame, identifies at least one area of motion in the radar image based on velocity bins of the radar image, and detects a target dynamic object based on a CFAR detection applied over the range and azimuth measurements and a SNR threshold of the received plurality of reflected pulses associated with the at least one area of motion.

Liveliness detection using radar

Embodiments described herein can address these and other issues by using radar machine learning to address the radio frequency (RF) to perform object identification, including facial recognition. In particular, embodiments may obtain IQ samples by transmitting and receiving a plurality of data packets with a respective plurality of transmitter antenna elements and receiver antenna elements, where each data packet of the plurality of data packets comprises one or more complementary pairs of Golay sequences. I/Q samples indicative of a channel impulse responses of an identification region obtained from the transmission and reception of the plurality of data packets may then be used to identify, with a random forest model, a physical object in the identification region.

Radio frequency (RF) object detection using radar and machine learning

Embodiments described herein can address these and other issues by using radar machine learning to address the radio frequency (RF) to perform object identification, including facial recognition. In particular, embodiments may obtain IQ samples by transmitting and receiving a plurality of data packets with a respective plurality of transmitter antenna elements and receiver antenna elements. I/Q samples indicative of a channel impulse responses of an identification region obtained from the transmission and reception of the plurality of data packets may then be used to identify, with an autoencoder, a physical object in the identification region.

Techniques provided herein are directed toward enabling short-range proximity detection using radar sensors by reducing or eliminating OTA leakage. Embodiments generally include performing spatial cancellation by using a plurality of transmit/receive pairs of antenna elements to implement analog and/or digital leakage cancellation on the transmit and/or receive side. According to some embodiments null space projection cancellation, OTA leakage tracking, or adaptive minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamforming may be performed to help preserve of the OTA leakage cancellation efficacy over time.

A two-stage technique for compressing radar data is disclosed in which, in the first stage, Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) compression is conducted using a median calculated from at least one dimension of radar data, which is then used to determine filtering threshold values for all dimensions of the radar data. The radar data is then compressed by filtering the radar data based on the filtering threshold values. In the second stage, peak detection is then performed on the compressed data to identify detected objects (targets). These and other embodiments are described herein.

Efficient compression of radar data

Space-time-frequency multiplexing (STFM) schemes for radio frequency (RF) scanning are disclosed in which complementary pairs of sequences (or 'Golay pairs') are transmitted at different times using multiple frequencies. The transmission and reception of the sequences can occur over multiple transmit (Tx) and/or receive (Rx) radio sectors to scan an entire area for range, azimuth, elevation, and (optionally) velocity of objects therein.

Space time frequency multiplexing (STFM) for radar systems using complementary pair waveforms

In the subject system, a receiver includes a feed forward circuit, a phase recovery circuit, and a feedback circuit. The feed forward circuit compensates for near reflections and provides an input to the phase recovery circuit and the feedback circuit. The phase recovery circuit performs phase recovery and provides phase recovery information to the feedback circuit. The feedback circuit adjusts and/or corrects a received symbol based at least in part on the received phase recovery information.
