Translational data in a first direction is measured by particle motion sensors contained in an elongated housing of a sensor device provided at an earth surface. The particle motion sensors are spaced apart along a second, different direction along a longitudinal axis of the elongated housing. Rotation data around a third direction is computed based at least in part on computing a gradient of the translational data with respect to the second direction.

Computing rotation data using a gradient of translational data

Translational data acquired by at least one seismic sensor is received. Gradient sensor data acquired by at least one gradient sensor is received. Estimated translational data at a position away from at least one position of the at least one seismic sensor is computed, where the computing is based on the gradient sensor data and the translational data.

Estimating translational data

A gradient sensor device includes a support structure providing a surface, and at least three particle motion sensors coupled with and/or arranged on the support structure to measure translational data in a first direction. The particle motion sensors have an arrangement that enables calculation of a spatial gradient of the translational data in a second direction different from the first direction.

Gradient sensor device

A seismic acquisition system. The seismic acquisition system may include at least one unmanned water vehicle. The seismic acquisition system may also include at least one seismic streamer coupled to the at least one unmanned water vehicle, where the at least one seismic streamer has one or more seismic sensors coupled thereto for recording seismic data in a survey area. The seismic acquisition system may further include a buoyancy compensation mechanism coupled to the at least one seismic streamer, where the buoyancy compensation mechanism is configured to orient the at least one seismic streamer between a generally vertical direction and a generally horizontal direction through a water column.

Separating survey data for multiple survey sources where first survey data along a first axis measured by a survey sensor device is received, the first survey data responsive to activations of the plurality of survey sources at respective azimuths with respect to the survey sensor device. Second survey data is rotated towards a first azimuth of a first of the plurality of survey sources. The rotated second survey data is used as a model of interference caused by a subset of the plurality of survey sources excluding the first survey source. In other examples, a time dithering technique is performed to separate survey data for multiple survey sources.

An apparatus includes an array of seismic sensor units that are adapted to acquire measurements in connection with a land surface-based seismic survey. Each seismic sensor unit includes a particle motion sensor and a rotation sensor.

Seismic acquisition system and technique

A seismic sensor device includes an elongated housing for placement at least partially into an earth surface. A plurality of particle motion sensors are contained in the elongated housing to measure translational data in a first direction, where plural pairs of the particle motion sensors are spaced apart along a second, different direction along a longitudinal axis of the elongated housing. A communication interface communicates the measured translational data to a computer system configured to compute a gradient based on respective differences of the measured translational data of the corresponding plural pairs of the particle motion sensors, and compute one or more of rotation data and divergence data using the gradient.

Computing a gradient based on differences of plural pairs of particle motion sensors

Methods and apparatuses for land seismic survey are provided. The methods and apparatuses utilize spatial derivatives of a seismic wavefield to interpolate, regularize or extrapolate seismic data. The methods and apparatuses may considerably reduce land seismic field efforts and/or compensate data gaps.
