The condition responsive valve construction has a valve seat disposed between a pair of ports to interconnect the same together and has a valve member for opening and closing the valve seat in response to a condition sensed thereby, a by-pass passage being provided in the valve member for fluidly interconnecting the ports together even though the valve seat is closed by the valve member. The by-pass passage has a check valve therein to permit fluid flow through the by-pass passage in only one direction. The valve construction has a restrictor unit fluidly interconnecting the ports together even though the valve seat is closed by the valve member and the by-pass passage is closed by the check valve.

Control system having an improved condition responsive valve construction

A valve construction having a valve seat and a movable valve member for opening and closing the valve seat and being operatively interconnected to a thermal power element carried by the valve construction, the valve member having an annular metallic part for engaging the valve seat to close the same and having an annular flexible elastomeric part for also engaging the valve seat upstream from the metallic part to augment the closing of the valve seat. The annular flexible elastomeric part is molded to the metallic part to be carried thereby.

Condition responsive valve construction

A valve construction having a first housing provided with an internal chamber and an inwardly directed shoulder projecting into the chamber at one end thereof and defining a valve seat on one side thereof. A second housing is secured to the first housing and has a chamber aligned with the chamber of the first housing, the second housing having an inwardly directed shoulder projecting into its chamber at one end thereof. A resilient annular member is disposed against one side of the shoulder of the first housing and against an adjacent side of the shoulder of the second housing while projecting inwardly beyond the shoulders to define the valve seat. One of the housings has an annular groove in the shoulder thereof inboard of the inner and outer peripheries thereof and receives an annular tongue projecting from the shoulder of the other housing, the tongue having an inner side thereof engaging the outer periphery of the resilient annular member and being ultrasonically welded substantially only on the outer side thereof to the housing that has the groove whereby the resulting weld area is isolated from the resilient annular member.

A three port valve construction having a onepiece plastic valve housing body provided with a stepped cylindrical opening through one end thereof that defines a pair of spaced annular shoulders, the body having three ports therein transversely disposed to the opening and respectively intersecting with the opening with one port being located between the shoulders and the other two ports being respectively disposed outboard of the shoulders. One of the shoulders defines a first valve seat and an annular plastic valve seat member is ultrasonically welded to the other of the shoulders to define a second valve seat. An axially movable valve member is slidingly disposed in the opening to control the first and second valve seats.

Three port valve construction and method of making the same

A temperature responsive valve for controlling communication between multiple ports is disclosed in three embodiments. In a first embodiment first and second adjacent chambers in a valve body are separated by a valve and second and third adjacent chambers in the body are separated by a second valve. The valves include a common stem carrying movable valve elements for simultaneously opening and closing the same. A sliding seal between the second and third chambers isolates these chambers for all positions of the valve stem. In a second embodiment there is also a fifth chamber communicating with a fifth port, a third valve is between the fourth and fifth ports, and a third valve element on the stem communicates the fourth port with the fifth port as the third port is closed relative to the fourth port. In a third embodiment first and second adjacent chambers in a valve body are separated by a valve seat which is selectively closed by a thermally actuated valve stem carrying movable valve elements. In all embodiments, the stem is moved by a fusion type thermal element so that the valve is transferred from a first position to a second position at a predetermined temperature. The valve is particularly useful for controlling communication between vacuum actuated devices of an internal combustion engine.

Temperature responsive valve

A temperature responsive valve having a series of three ports and a specially shaped valve stem and valve seat arrangement wherein the valve stem of the arrangement is connected to a thermostatic power element for controlling open flow intercommunication between the first and second ports or the second and third ports of the series.
