A system adapted to provide alert signals to individuals or institutions and/or control signals to utilities control units to automatically stop the flow of gas, water, electricity, oil, etc., such signals being delivered in response to the detection of seismic events, the detection occurring via ground-based monitoring systems and/or satellite-based monitoring systems. The alert and/or control signals are distributed through various broadcasting systems or similar channels of communication, such as radio frequency transmitters, Internet service providers, cell phone wireless carriers, satellite phone service providers and/or security monitoring service providers, to individuals and/or facilities through smartphones, landline telephones, tablets, PC's, voice-controlled web communication devices or the like and/or to signal receivers on utilities control units. The system utilizes utilities control units having a signal receiving device adapted to receive the alert and utilities control signals from the broadcasting systems, and a central processing unit module in communication with the signal receiving device and one or more utilities control mechanisms.

Seismic event responsive alert and utilities control system and methodology

A utilities control system with a DC powered control system located within a building or room and having in combination an occupant activation device, a seismic sensor and a wireless transmitter; a wireless receiver in combination with a utilities shut-off device, and whereby upon either a change in status of the occupant activation device or the sensing of a seismic event by the seismic sensor, a signal is transmitted from the wireless transmitter to the wireless receiver such that the utilities shut-off device is activated to stop delivery of utilities.

Seismically responsive utilities control system with occupancy activation mechanism

A tow winch powered by a DC motor and a rechargeable battery. A tow rope is wound by the winch spool, the tow rope having a tow handle with one or more wireless throttle control members to start, stop and adjust the speed and acceleration of the retrieval operation. A marker device is incorporated into or attached to the tow rope and a sensor switch is provided on the base, whereby when the marker device is detected by the sensor switch the winch is disengaged. The base and operational components are sized and structured such that straps may be connected to the base and the tow winch carried like a backpack.

A gravity-type sensor device comprising a switch which monitors the position of an object over a three dimensional pathway which extends dimensionally about all three orthogonal axes where the object may be tilted, rotated or inverted, as well as translated through space rather than maintained at a fixed location, so as to provide a signal to indicate that the object is moving in the correct three dimensional manner, whereby the switch is disposed within an external housing in a manner that allows the position of the switch to be altered relative to the housing, thereby allowing the angle or plane of the pathway to be adjusted when the housing is attached to different objects.

Adjustable three-axis gravity switch

A gravity responsive attitude switch containing electrical contacts separated by a gap, the switch containing a bead liquid and a carrier liquid, the two liquids being immiscible and having different electric resistivity values, where the liquid bead may be disposed between the contacts by properly positioning the switch. The contacts are connected in an electronic circuit which senses the difference in resistivity dependent on whether the bead liquid or the carrier liquid is bridging the gap between the contacts, which in turn determines whether an operative electric circuit is opened or closed.

A three-axis gravity switch having a curved chamber in the shape of a 360 degree torus having a circular cross-section which retains a gravity responsive member such as a ball of liquid mercury, the chamber having a three-dimensional sensing pathway defined on at least one of its walls, where the gravity responsive member and pathway are conductive, either electrically or optically, such that a circuit is completed when the gravity responsive member contacts the pathway, where the switch can be rotated, inverted and translated in three dimensions such that the pathway defines an acceptable three dimensional course of rotation for the switch.

A three-axis gravity switch having a curved chamber with an inner wall in the shape of a convex hemisphere, an electrically conductive outer wall in the shape of a concave hemisphere, a magnet disposed within the inner wall which retains a gravity responsive metal ball abutting the inner wall, an electrically conductive liquid connecting the metal ball to the outer wall, and the chamber having a conductive pathway defined on its inner wall, such that a circuit is completed when the gravity responsive member contacts the pathway, where the switch can be rotated, inverted and translated in three dimensions such that the pathway defines an acceptable three dimensional course of rotation for the switch.

A three-axis gravity switch having a curved chamber to retain a gravity responsive member such as a ball of liquid mercury, the chamber having a three-dimensional pathway defined on at least one of its walls, where the gravity responsive member and pathway are conductive, either electrically or optically, such that a circuit is completed when the gravity responsive member contacts the pathway, where the switch can be rotated, inverted and translated in three dimensions such that the pathway defines an acceptable three dimensional course of rotation for the switch.

A training device for improving the golf swing by providing immediate feedback of incorrect club positioning in the backswing and forward swing. The device senses the attitude of the club during the swing and comprises a small housing or case which attaches temporarily to the shaft of the golf club adjacent the club grip. Contained within the housing are one or more attitude sensing means, such as a mercury switch, connected in circuit to a power source, such as a battery, and an indicator means, such as a vibrator or an audible alarm, such that the indicator means is activated either when the golf club is correctly maintained during the swing within an acceptable swing path area defined by a limited deviation angle on either side of the ideal swing plane, or alternatively only when the golf club is incorrectly positioned out of the acceptable swing path area.
