A garment hanger of the garment clamping type has a pair of jaws, the first one of which is integral with the hanger body and the other is pivotal about the top of the first jaw. A resilient clip slidably seated over the tops of the jaws resiliently holds the jaws in garment clamping position. The front face of the pivoted jaw has an elongated recessed channel to guide the user's finger to engage the clip and slide it into release position. The jaws are so designed that the free end of the pivoted jaw can pass a limited distance through the bottom of the first jaw when no garment is present.

A hanger specifically designed for holding and suspending lightweight clothing, particularly delicate fabrics, has a rigid, elongated body terminating at each end in a pair of arms, one on top and one on the bottom of the body forming article receiving slots opening toward the center of the hanger. A third arm creates a downwardly opening slot at the end of the body. The arms are designed to permit limited flexing for seating and removing articles from the slots. The flexing occurs as a hinging action at the point of attachment to the body and at this point the arms are reinforced. The upper of the slots may have a pocket portion for positively securing garment straps and the like and also a finger member spaced from the inner end of the upper arm to form an upwardly opening entry to the slot or it may have a spring-like finger in the pocket which clamps a garment inserted into the pocket area. The downwardly opening end slots may have an upwardly extending finger to clamp a garment against the finger forming the outer side of the slot.

An article hanger particularly useful for clothing has an elongated, non-circular, beam-like body along which article gripping clamps are slidably mounted for adjustment in spacing. The beam-like body passes through the article receiving chamber formed between the jaws of the clamps. The clamps have spaced strap-like members which extend around and embrace the beam-like body. The face of the body directed into the chamber is exposed between the straps and has an irregular or unsmooth surface against which the article is pressed by the clamps to create a frictional grip resisting creep of the clamp lengthwise of the body. Also the spring clip holding the clamp closed engages the back face of the body to further resist creep.

A plastic hanger for articles including garments has article gripping clamps and is provided with an auxiliary bar over with portions of the articles or garments can be draped. The auxiliary bar depends below the hanger and is wider than the spacing between the outer ends of the clamps. The bar can be a separate component pivotally supported by the hanger body or it can be molded as an integral part of the hanger.

A hanger of molded plastic body construction has an integral hook anchor for an auxiliary hanger depending from the body of the hanger below and in vertical alignment with the hanger's support hook. The hook anchor has an internal chamber defined by front, back and bottom walls. The chamber is open at both ends and has a height substantially greater than the material thickness of the auxiliary hook to be secured in it. One of the front or rear walls has a horizontal slot providing access to the chamber for the hook of the auxiliary hanger. The slot is spaced above the bottom of the chamber to create a retaining lip for a hook seated in the chamber. In addition, means are provided to restrain the hook from leaving the chamber unless the removal is intentional and forcible.

The garment hanger is of the one-piece molded plastic type and has a supporting hook with a straight intermediate portion between its base and support engaging end. The intermediate portion has a laterally extending vertical panel for mounting an indicia displaying tally. The panel is inclined at an angle to the plane of the lateral or lengthwise axis of the hanger whereby the indicia on the tally is simultaneously visible from both the front and one end of the hanger.

A machine is disclosed for securing clamping garment hangers to individual garments and includes a hanger holding magazine with fixed and movable stops to release the hangers one-by-one to an attaching station where the hanger is automatically positioned to receive a garment. The station also includes reciprocable cantilevered arms for closing and locking the hanger on the garment. Also disclosed is a special package for bulk shipment of the hangers, collated into groups suitable for charging the magazine.

A hanger for garments or other articles such as shoes having loops or web-like portions from which said articles may be suspended, includes a body member equipped with a hook, the body member being generally of U-shaped configuration when folded for use and having a central web and a pair of wings. Each of the wings defines a slot opening through one end thereof and extending generally horizontally when the hanger is suspended from its hook for engaging the loops or a web-like portion of an article. The upstanding hook is formed integral with the body member to permit suspension of the hanger from a support rod or the like.
