A downhole assembly of an artificial lift system includes: an adapter for connection to production tubing; a receptacle shaft; an up-thrust bearing; a centrifugal pump; and a down-thrust bearing. The receptacle shaft has a latch profile for receiving a latch fastener of a drive coupling and a torsional profile for mating with the coupling to longitudinally and torsionally connect thereto. The up-thrust bearing includes: a thrust driver longitudinally and torsionally connected to the receptacle shaft; and a thrust carrier connected to the adapter. The centrifugal pump includes: a diffuser connected to the adapter; a pump shaft torsionally connected to the receptacle shaft; and an impeller connected to the pump shaft. The down-thrust bearing includes: a thrust driver longitudinally and torsionally connected to the pump shaft; and a thrust carrier connected to the adapter.

Rod driven centrifugal pumping system for adverse well production

A surface drivehead drives a downhole pump by rotating a rod string at the surface. The downhole pump can be connected downhole to the rod string via a downhole latching mechanism. The surface drivehead has an assembly that can move the rod string upwards or downwards along an axis to either increase or decrease rod string tension. During rod string rotation, rod tension is monitored. If rod string tension changes during rotation, the surface drivehead can automatically compensate by moving the rod string upwards or downwards along the axis to either recapture or eliminate tension. In this way, the surface drivehead can maintain a substantially constant rod string tension to drive the downhole pump at high speeds.

Progressive cavity pump assemblies including one or more mechanisms adapted to regulate intake pressure of the main pump between a minimum intake pressure and a maximum intake pressure. In one embodiment, the mechanism is a sealing member configured to open at a threshold pressure to discharge wellbore fluid and close after falling below the threshold pressure. In an alternative embodiment, the mechanism may be a regulator assembly that adjusts the volume of output from the charge pump to the interconnect according to the pressure in the interconnect.
