Peroxide treatment compositions for use in laundry capable of providing sanitization through the wash e.g., for use with a detergent, where a peroxide activator is stabilized without the presence of phosphorus-containing compounds (e.g., phosphorus-containing stabilizers), through use of a nonionic surfactant (e.g., alkoxylated alcohol) with a cloud point above 45° C. Use of a single nonionic surfactant, or a surfactant package that may include a small fraction (e.g., less than 0.5%) of sodium lauryl sulfate or another anionic surfactant has been found to be surprisingly effective at stabilizing the peroxide/activator combination, even where water content may be 85% or greater. The composition can have a pH of 5 or less (e.g., 3 to 4). The composition may be free of other anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, zwitterionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, magnesium salts, borates and boric acid, hydroxides, chelating agents, various amine oxides, ethoxylated amines, and the like.

The invention relates to compositions, methods of use, and methods of manufacture for an intercalated bleach compound and compositions thereof. The intercalated bleach compound has the formula M(OCl)(O)(OH)where M is an alkaline earth metal such as magnesium, calcium or mixture thereof. The values of x and y independently equal any number greater than or equal to 1 (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.), and m and n independently equal any number greater than or equal to 0 (e.g., 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.), but m and n are not both 0. In addition, the molar ratio of the alkaline earth metal (e.g., magnesium or calcium) to hypochlorite is at least 3:1. In other words, x is &#x2265;3y. The compounds exhibit excellent stability, little or no chlorine bleach odor, exhibit excellent pH buffering characteristics, and less reactivity with organic materials as compared to alternative chlorine bleach products.

Methods for introducing a substantially uniform concentration of a functional agent into a flowing stream of water using a shaped composition. The composition may be shaped and sized to be inserted into a device configured to be attached over the end of a faucet. The shaped composition comprises a dissolvable region including a functional agent (e.g., an anti-microbial sanitizing agent). A non-dissolvable region disposed adjacent to the dissolvable region may optionally be provided. The substantially non-dissolvable region remains substantially intact as the dissolving region is progressively dissolved, introducing the functional agent into a flowing stream of water.

Methods of providing uniform delivery of a functional agent from a shaped composition

A solid composition including calcium and/or magnesium hypochlorite, a builder (e.g., one or more of carbonate, bicarbonate, sesquicarbonate), an acid, a water-soluble polymer, at least one anionic surfactant, and optionally, a hydrotrope. The composition does not include any potassium hypochlorite, sodium hypochlorite, lithium hypochlorite, N-halogenated compounds, peroxides, persulfates, hydantoins, isocyanurates, or carboxylic acids that also have hydroxyl, amino, amido, imino, or imido groups. Upon dissolution of the composition in water, the calcium and/or magnesium hypochlorite and acid react to form hypochlorous acid. The use of hypochlorous acid, rather than direct use of an alkaline or alkaline earth hypochlorite results in a composition that is typically acidic rather than basic, and that results in improved cleaning. The composition is particularly suited for cleaning and disinfecting dentures.
