A cleaning solution for a turbine engine includes water; a first organic acidic component that comprises citric acid; a second organic acidic component that comprises glycolic acid; isopropylamine sulphonate; alcohol ethoxylate; triethanol amine; and sodium lauriminodipropionate. The cleaning solution has a pH value between about 2.5 and about 7.0.

Cleaning solution and methods of cleaning a turbine engine

System for selectively contacting a cleaning composition with a surface of a turbine engine component is presented. The system includes a cleaning apparatus and a manifold assembly. The cleaning apparatus includes an upper portion and a lower portion defining a cleaning chamber configured to allow selective contact between the cleaning composition and a surface of the first portion of the turbine engine component. The upper portion includes a plurality of fill holes in fluid communication with the cleaning chamber, and the lower portion includes a plurality of drain holes in fluid communication with the cleaning chamber. The manifold assembly is configured to selectively circulate the cleaning composition from a reservoir to the cleaning chamber via the plurality of fill holes, and recirculate the cleaning composition from the cleaning chamber to the reservoir via the plurality of drain holes. Methods for selectively cleaning a turbine engine component is also presented.

System and methods for selective cleaning of turbine engine components

A system and method are provided including an inclusion module to receive a powder sample from a powder source; a computed tomography equipment; a memory for storing program instructions; an inclusion processor, coupled to the memory, and in communication with the inclusion module, and operative to execute program instructions to: receive the powder sample; execute a computed tomography (CT) scan process of the received sample to generate a first dataset including one or more images; identify inclusions in the one or more images, via a segmentation process; reconstruct, via a reconstruction process, the identified inclusion into a 3D representation; measure the identified inclusion; mark the inclusions on one or more image slices from the 3D representations; and determine whether the powder source is contaminated based on the one or more marked images. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Alloy powder cleanliness inspection using computed tomography

A cleaning system and method uses a tank holding a fluid detergent and an equipment assembly formed from a plurality of discrete components joined together. One or more ultrasound transducers remove one or more deposits on the equipment assembly by generating and propagating high frequency ultrasound waves into the fluid detergent while the equipment assembly is in contact with the fluid detergent.

Methods for repairing flange bolt holes and the resulting flange bolt holes are provided. The methods and products include the incorporation of a coating system comprising a corrosion resistant layer, which can be formed by resistance plug welding, slurry or sol-gel processing, or thermal/cold spray processing. The corrosion resistant layer can be a super alloy or ceramic material and is different than the base material of the flange bolt hole. Corrosion of the flange bolt hole can be reduced or prevented from occurring with the use of the coating system.

In one embodiment, a method of manufacturing a metal part using a laser or electron beam during a powder bed additive manufacturing process includes melting each of a number of layers of metal powder of the metal part with an effective amount of energy using the laser or electron beam to form the metal part such that at least one or more portions of the metal part have a critical amount of residual strain. The method also includes performing a heat treatment on the metal part that transforms the residual strain into substantially distributed coincidence site lattice (CSL) grain boundaries, low angle grain boundaries, or both in the metal part.
