Systems and methods for client-side processing of secondary event data are provided. Client computing device receive and process manifest information provided by a streaming content service in response to a content request. In addition to the identification of the set of encoded content segments, the returned manifest information includes the secondary event instructions that instruct the client computing device on how to further process received encoded content segments with secondary event data. The client computing device may process the secondary event instructions to identify what graphics and audio codes need to be inserted be include; timing information regarding when graphics or codes are needed to be inserted; location or placement information regarding how these graphics or codes are inserted when rendered by the client computing device.

Content delivery using client-side secondary event data instructions

Media content may be mastered at a higher quality than is supported on various remote workstations to perform tasks with respect to that content, using transmission channels that do not support data transfer rates for large, high quality media content. A compressed version of this content may be transmitted over a first channel for use with various tasks on a remote workstation. For tasks such as color grading that benefit from this higher quality content, a separate but parallel communication channel is used to transmit a higher-quality version of this content. An uncompressed video stream can be encoded using a lossless codec to retain higher quality data. A high quality video stream can be transmitted over a separate transmission channel, and received to a decoder that can decode this stream to provide a high quality video signal for presentation via a grading monitor or other such high quality presentation device.

The disclosure herein pertains to a content creation service utilizing micro-services. The content creation service divides up the tasks for content creation including extracting a start portion, a stop portion, and merging the stop portion, start portion, and segments between the start portion and the stop portion. The content creation service utilizes micro-services in order to perform the tasks. Advantageously, use of micro-services allow for improved scalability and faster processing.

Systems, devices, and methods are provided for transmitting and retransmitting data. A first message transmitted by a sender computing entity to a receiver computing entity over a first port may exercise a first network path whereas a second message transmitted over a second port may exercise a second network path. A system (e.g., sender computing entity) may determine network reliability metrics for a plurality of network paths. If a system detects data loss (e.g., packet loss) on a first port, a second port may be selected based on network reliability metrics for retransmission of the lost data. A port may for example, be selected for retransmission based on the following criteria: (1) the port has the longest consecutive duration without packet loss and (2) the port has received an acknowledgement for a packet that was sent more recently than the initial transmission of the lost packet.

Content-specific archive files can be generated concurrently with the encoding of an output stream, such as for broadcast content. Tags or triggers, such as SCTE-35 messages, can be detected in the input content stream, and those triggers used to determine actions to be taken with respect to the content stream. As an example, program start tags and end tags can be used to determine when to begin, and end, the archiving of content to an output file specific to that program content. For archives that should not include advertising, secondary content, or any non-program content, triggers such as advertising start and stop tags can be used to determine when to pause and resume recording for those archives. Once completed, these archive files can be made accessible to users, such as through a video-on-demand service or other such offering.

Dynamic archiving of streaming content

Systems and methods are described to enable a personalized content stream whose content can be dynamically altered by a user, such that multiple underlying contents can seamlessly be included within the personalized content stream. Multiple input content streams are encoded to include time-aligned splice point frames, which break inter frame dependency before and after a given splice point frame. Time-aligned segments are then generated from the encoded streams. A user may thereafter select segments of any of the input content streams to be included within a personalized content stream, and an output device may decode segments generated from different input content streams as part of the personalized content stream, without errors being introduced into the content stream due to the segments stemming from different input content streams. Thus, as user may dynamically alter the content of a personalized content stream based on their preferences.

Personalized content streams using aligned encoded content segments

Techniques for routing media streams in a provider network are described. A media routing service is disclosed that comprises one or more virtual media routers for routing media streams from one or more media sources to one or more downstream devices coupled to the provider network. The media routing service provides external entities (e.g., users) of the provider network with the ability to request for a virtual media router for routing media content and determines the appropriate set of computing resources necessary to provision and launch the virtual media router in the provider network. In certain embodiments, the media routing service processes routing commands generated by a client, generates routing information comprising source to destination mappings based on the routing commands, and securely distributes media content to identified downstream devices based on the routing information.

Framework for routing media streams in a provider network

A video packaging and origination service can include a plurality of media endpoints corresponding to different streaming channels. As encoder encoded content into segments, on-demand code is executed to identify a distribution of a set of media endpoints for individual encoded segments from a record in a database. Individual encoded content segments are distributed based on the distribution information identified in an applicable record in the database.

Dynamic distribution of encoded content to media endpoints

Systems and methods are described to enable replacement, in a packaged content stream, of a first encoded content stream with a second encoded content stream, without requiring decoding of the encoded content streams. A controller can receive a request to replace the first encoded content stream with the second encoded content stream at a specified location (e.g., a particular time). The controller can then instruct encoders associated with the respective content streams to insert a splice point frame into the respective content streams at the specified location, which splice point frame breaks inter frame dependency before and after the splice point frame. A packager can then replace the first encoded content stream with the second encoded content stream at the location of the splice point frame in the packaged content stream, without introducing errors into the packaged content stream as a result of broken inter frame dependency.
