Head-mounted augmented reality (AR) devices can track pose of a wearer's head to provide a three-dimensional virtual representation of objects in the wearer's environment. An electromagnetic (EM) tracking system can track head or body pose. A handheld user input device can include an EM emitter that generates an EM field, and the head-mounted AR device can include an EM sensor that senses the EM field. EM information from the sensor can be analyzed to determine location and/or orientation of the sensor and thereby the wearer's pose. The EM emitter and sensor may utilize time division multiplexing (TDM) or dynamic frequency tuning to operate at multiple frequencies. Voltage gain control may be implemented in the transmitter, rather than the sensor, allowing smaller and lighter weight sensor designs. The EM sensor can implement noise cancellation to reduce the level of EM interference generated by nearby audio speakers.

Apparatus and methods for displaying an image by a rotating structure are provided. The rotating structure can comprise blades of a fan. The fan can be a cooling fan for an electronics device such as an augmented reality display. In some embodiments, the rotating structure comprises light sources that emit light to generate the image. The light sources can comprise light-field emitters. In other embodiments, the rotating structure is illuminated by an external (e.g., non-rotating) light source.

Systems and methods of disabling user control interfaces during attachment of a wearable electronic device to a portion of a user's clothing or accessory are disclosed. The wearable electronic device can include inertial measurement units (IMUs), optical sources, optical sensors or electromagnetic sensors. Based on the information provided by the IMUs, optical sources, optical sensors or electromagnetic sensors, an electrical processing and control system can make a determination that the electronic device is being grasped and picked up for attaching to a portion of a user's clothing or accessory or that the electronic device is in the process of being attached to a portion of a user's clothing or accessory and temporarily disable one or more user control interfaces disposed on the outside of the wearable electronic device.

A fan assembly is disclosed. The fan assembly can include a first support frame. The fan assembly can comprise a shaft assembly having a first end coupled with the first support frame and a second end disposed away from the first end. A second support frame can be coupled with the first support frame and disposed at or over the second end of the shaft assembly. An impeller can have fan blades coupled with a hub, the hub being disposed over the shaft assembly for rotation between the first and second support frames about a longitudinal axis. Transverse loading on the shaft assembly can be controlled by the first and second support frames.

Apparatus and methods for displaying an image by a rotating structure are provided. The rotating structure can comprise blades of a fan. The fan can be a cooling fan for an electronics device such as an augmented reality display. In some embodiments, the rotating structure comprises light sources that emit light to generate the image. Electronic devices such as smartphones () or tablet computers are provided with an illuminated integrated speaker port insert and button () which allows audio energy to pass out of the speaker port (), serves as control button for a function such as volume control or power, and is provided with single or multi-color illumination () so as to serve as a visual information indicator. The button () can serve in place of side mounted button while not requiring additional allocation of area on the devices front surface beyond what would be allocated for a speaker port and therefore not reduce the area available for a display screen (). The button may be more readily located by touch due to its location and by sight due to the provision of illumination and owing to its use as a speaker port insert the purpose of the button may be intuitively grasped and later recalled by the user.
