An absorbent article including a chassis, a pair of opposed elastic side panels attached to the chassis, and at least one fastening tab adhesively attached to each elastic side panel. The at least one fastening tab has a length in the transverse direction of the article and a width in the longitudinal direction of the article and each elastic side panel is embossed on at least a portion thereof, which is adhesively attached to the respective fastening tab, to form at least one embossed groove extending along at least 30%, preferably at least 40% and more preferably at least 60% of the width of the at least one fastening tab.

Absorbent article with embossed elastic side panels

An absorbent article, in particular a diaper. The rear portion thereof includes a pair of elastic side panels attached to opposing longitudinal edges thereof. The front portion of the article includes at least two landing zones upon which the elastic side panels overlap when the article is fastened. An area of the front portion located at least around each landing zone includes a plurality of first indicia in a first pattern. Each of said elastic side panels also includes a plurality of second indicia in a second pattern. The distance between adjacent second indicia including the second pattern increases as the elastic side panel is stretched. When the elastic side panels are stretched by a predetermined force, the second pattern on the elastic side panels matches the first pattern around each landing zone.

Absorbent article with elastic side panels

The article further includes a liquid permeable topsheet (,) extending over the upper surface (,) and a liquid impermeable sheet (,) covering the longitudinal edge portions (,) of the absorbent core (,). A strip of generally hydrophobic resilient material (,) is placed between the liquid impermeable sheet (,) and the absorbent core (,) along each longitudinal edge portion (,) of the absorbent core in at least the mid portion (,) to thereby increase the flexure resistance of the article.

Absorbent article

An absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin or incontinence guard, comprises a liquid-impermeable surface layer which is remote from the wearer when the article is worn, a liquid-permeable surface layer which faces towards the wearer in use, and an absorbent pad which is contained between the two surface layers. The absorbent pad is arched in a transverse direction, at least at its center part, and therewith exhibits a convex surface on the side of the pad which faces the wearer in use. The edges of the article are restrained from flexing toward the liquid-permeable surface, and the transverse arch is maintained by a restraining device attached to the longitudinal edges of the article.
