The digital photographing apparatus includes: a lens unit including a focus lens; an imaging device generating data from light incident on the imaging device through the lens unit; a condition determining unit determining a photographing condition from the data generated by the imaging device; and an auto-focusing value detecting unit detecting an auto-focusing value from the data generated by the imaging device and comprising a first gamma correction unit, wherein the first gamma correction unit varies the degree of gamma correction according to the photographing condition determined by the condition determining unit, and the auto-focusing value detecting unit detects an auto-focusing value.

Provided are an apparatus and method for adjusting focus using the MTF characteristics of a lens in a digital image processing apparatus that adjusts focus using optical characteristics of a lens. The apparatus for adjusting focus includes: an image pickup unit in which modulation transfer function (MTF) data, which can be used to represent the performance of a lens, is stored; and a digital signal processing unit that calculates a focus peak value of an image and a defocus correction value based on the MTF data, and corrects the focus position using the focus peak value and the defocus correction value.

Apparatus and method for adjusting focus using modulation transfer functions

A photographing device for photographing a subject is provided. The photographing device includes a face recognition unit recognizing a face included in an image of the subject; a distance calculation unit calculating a distance between each of a plurality of faces when the plurality of faces are recognized by the face recognition unit; and a distance comparison unit comparing the distance calculated by the distance calculation unit with a pre-set reference distance.
