A plasma display panel in which partition walls are formed to have different widths includes a front substrate and a rear substrate facing the front substrate. The front substrate includes sustain electrodes, a dielectric layer that covers the sustain electrodes, and a protective layer formed on the bottom of the dielectric layer. The rear substrate includes a address electrodes, partition walls formed parallel to the address electrodes discharge spaces therebetween, the partition walls having corresponding different widths. Red, green and blue phosphor layers are deposited on the corresponding insides of adjacent pairs of the partition walls.

A plasma display device includes a first substrate, an address electrode formed on an upper surface of the fist substrate, a first dielectric layer formed on the upper surface of the first substrate and embedding the address electrode, a second substrate which is transparent and forms a discharge space by being coupled to the first substrate, a plurality of maintaining electrodes formed on a lower surface of the second substrate to form a predetermined angle with the address electrode, each of the maintaining electrodes including first and second electrodes, a second dielectric layer formed on the second substrate where the maintaining electrodes are formed and embedding the maintaining electrodes, at least a portion where an electrical field is concentrated formed between the first and second electrodes constituting the maintaining electrodes, and a partition installed between the first and second substrates for sectioning the discharge space.

Plasma display device including grooves concentrating an electric field

A method for driving a surface discharge type plasma display panel (PDP) having a matrix display form is provided. The surface discharge type PDP is driven by a progressive driving method such that non-discharge regions are removed by combining common and scanning electrodes traversing neighboring discharge cells or two neighboring scanning electrodes into one. While the scanning electrodes traversing neighboring discharge cells are reduced to one to be used in common, sequential scanning is allowed. Thus, the number of driver circuits can be reduced. Also, since the distance between electrodes of the respective lines can be reduced, a high-precision PDP can be achieved by reducing a line pitch. Also, the ratio of the area occupied by display electrodes in a unit emission region is increased and the range in which a surface discharge occurs is extended, thereby improving the luminance.
