Provided are an apparatus and method for detecting an occluded face and an apparatus and method for discriminating an illegal user using the same. The apparatus for detecting an occluded face includes a smoothing unit, a region division unit, a first region detection unit, a second region detection unit, and a decision unit. The smoothing unit smoothes a facial region. The region division unit divides the smoothed facial region into a first region and a second region. The first region detection unit generates a first region detection result by detecting whether the first region is an occluded region. The second region detection unit generates a second region detection result by detecting whether the first region is an occluded region. The decision unit decides whether the facial region is an occluded face based on the first region detection result and the second region detection result.

An apparatus and method for human distinction using infrared light, the apparatus includes: a photographing unit, which photographs a subject by radiating or not radiating infrared light onto the subject according to a predetermined control signal; and an image processing unit, which outputs the predetermined control signal, receives images output from the photographing unit to detect a predetermined area in each of the images, compares an infrared image and a non-infrared image of the detected areas, and determines whether the subject is obtained from a real human face or not.

Apparatus and method for human distinction using infrared light

An apparatus to compress a dynamic range of an image, and a method of compressing the dynamic range. The apparatus includes a periphery value production unit to calculate periphery information about peripheral pixels on a polyhedron-by-polyhedron basis using summed area tables produced form an analog pixel stream of a previous frame of the image, multiply the periphery information by predetermined weight values, sum results of the multiplications, and output the sum as a periphery value; and a pixel value correction unit to correct a pixel value of a target pixel included in an analog pixel stream of a current frame using the periphery value; wherein the peripheral pixels are located around the target pixel and included in the previous frame, and a kernel distribution expressed in a kernel function, which is a distribution of weight values dependent on locations of pixels included in the image, is approximated to a sum of the polyhedrons.
