Magnetic Resonance (MR) conditional medical equipment for use in MR environments. The MR conditional medical equipment includes MR conditional handheld battery operated devices, for example, laryngoscopes, flashlights, and the like, and MR conditional carbon zinc power packs for operating the devices. The devices can be designed to be inoperable by standard alkaline batteries which would render the medical equipment non MR conditional. Alternatively, the devices can have a sealed power pack compartment pre-installed with a non-replaceable carbon zinc power pack.

Magnetic resonance (MR) conditional medical equipment for use in MR environments

A laryngoscope assembly with enhanced viewing capability including a laryngoscope handle having a permanently mounted laryngoscope optical system. The laryngoscope optical system has a view tube with a leading aperture lens for affording a field of view along a deflected line of sight viewing in an operative intubation position. The laryngoscope handle includes a laryngoscope optical system securing arrangement for mechanically securing the laryngoscope optical system in the operative intubation position. The laryngoscope assembly also includes an interchangeable laryngoscope blade including a trailing view tube sleeve for slidably mounting on the view tube and a leading spatula wherein the view tube sleeve has a leading transparent window for covering the aperture lens. The laryngoscope assembly further includes a blade securing arrangement for mechanically securing the laryngoscope blade on the laryngoscope handle in the operative intubation position.

Hand operated articulated intubation stylet including an articulated stylet member with a link at its distal end, a L-shaped lever with a downward depending handle for tautening a flexible wire for flexing the link into a flexed positioned to form a hook-like configuration in the stylet member's side view, and a stopper mechanism mounted on the stylet member for stopping insertion of the stylet member into an endotracheal tube at a suitable position depending on the endotracheal tube's length. The handle and the link are on opposite sides of the stylet member such that a user conveniently operates the stylet with his fingers stretched out to grip the stylet member and his palm depressing the handle towards the stylet member to flex the stylet member's link into its flexed position for manipulating an endotracheal tube's outboard end for insertion into a patient's trachea.

A handheld penknife-like laryngoscope including a handle having an electrically insulating rigid plastic blade support section and a battery compartment section for housing a power source with a pair of opposite polarity terminals including a first terminal adjacent the blade support section and a second terminal remote therefrom, and an electrically conducting metal blade non-detachably pivotally hinged on the blade support section for manipulation from an inoperative storage position co-directional with the handle to an operative intubation position perpendicular thereto. The blade tapers towards a tip and has a light source there toward with a first electrode in electrical contact with the blade and a second electrode in electrical contact with the second terminal. A light guide mount for use with a Shucman&trade; type ISO 7376/1 compatible laryngoscope blade, the light guide mount including a housing with a throughbore, and an L-shaped fiber optic light pipe with a short leg securely fastened into the housing and a long leg for extending along the blade, the throughbore accommodating a floating contact pin, a portion of the short leg, and a miniature bulb interdisposed between the contact pin and the short leg. The cell is a metal-gas battery cell and the electrical power storage medium contained in the interior space contains a slurry containing active porous zinc particles saturated with an electrolyte solution. The outer electrodes define an opening communicating with the interior space, and the inner electrodes are configured for their removal from the interior space, via the opening, thereby enabling the simultaneous removal of the inner electrodes and the slurry from the interior space.

Mechanically rechargeable electric batteries and anodes for use therein

An electrical power storage unit has one or more metal-gas electrical cells, each cell including a pair of generally planar outer electrode units configured to define therebetween an interior space for containing an electrical power storage medium and an inner electrode unit mounted between the pair of outer electrode units so as to be in electrically conductive contact with the electrical power storage medium and define a plurality of volumes each having a pair of open ends, each open end facing an adjacent outer electrode unit. The power storage medium is a slurry containing active metal particles and an electrolyte solution. The inner electrode unit is configured for removable insertion within the interior space. The volumes defined by the inner electrode unit are configured so as to contain portions of the power storage slurry such that removal of the inner electrode unit from the interior space causes the simultaneous removal therefrom of the major part of the power storage slurry. Each outer electrode unit includes a generally planar gas electrode, a device for separating the metal particles from the gas electrode, and a device for preventing mechanical damage to the device for separating upon removal of the inner electrode unit from the interior space and upon insertion of the inner electrode unit into that space.
