A stimulation apparatus includes a stimulation lead (), a multiplexer (), a stimulation signal generator (), and a signal detector (). The stimulation lead () includes a plurality of stimulation electrodes () disposed in an array about a distal portion of the lead body (). The arrangement of the electrodes () facilitates the controlled steering of stimulating electrical field () in three dimensions. Four dimensional field steering may also be provided.

Tissue stimulation method and apparatus

A power efficient biomedical electro-stimulator circuit BSC is provided. The circuit BSC includes a charging circuit arranged to control charging of a storage capacitor C based on electric energy from an energy source ES, e.g. a battery. The charging circuit includes an energy converter EC that applies a charging current I to the storage capacitor C, this charging current I being substantially constant over a charging period T, thereby providing a power efficient charging. In preferred embodiments, the energy converter EC is an inductive energy converter, e.g. a DC-DC converter, with a control circuit serving to provide an almost constant charging current during the charging period. In another embodiment, the energy converter EC is an energy converter that charges the storage capacitor via a series resonator, e.g. a series connection of an inductor and a capacitor. The proposed biomedical electro-stimulator circuit is advantageous for devices such as pacemakers, and neural stimulation etc. which can benefit of increased battery lifetime due to an efficient charging scheme.

Biomedical electro-stimulator

The invention relates to a neurostimulation system, particularly for deep brain stimulation (DBS), comprising a spatial array () of stimulation electrodes () and an associated controller (). The controller () is adapted to sequentially supply electrical pulses to different subsets of the stimulation electrodes (). Preferably, the controller () comprises a single pulse-generator () and a multiplexing unit () for distributing the pulses to different stimulation electrodes. The stimulation electrodes () may preferably be arranged on probes ().

An antenna system for an implantable device like a cardiac pacemaker or a cochlear implant. The antenna system includes at least two coil units coupled with their terminals to a control circuit which can selectively connect the coil units in series or in anti-series, corresponding to a 'operational mode' and a 'safety mode', respectively. In the operational mode, magnetically induced voltages in the coil units add, while they subtract and therefore completely or partially compensate in the safety mode. Thus the implantable device can be protected from damage due to extraordinarily large changing rates of external magnetic fields as they exist for example during MRI examinations.

A (display) device () contains multiple panels () like e.g. displays. Every display can be used to display its own content and can be rolled out of a sub-housing () like e.g. a cartridge separately. In different configurations the same cartridge can be arranged in such a way that the panels are used for a separate functionality or multiple display panels form one big screen.

A thin film transistor circuit has a main thin film transistor (), a control input () for controlling the operation of the main thin film transistor and a threshold adjustment capacitor () connected between the control input and the gate of the main thin film transistor. A charging circuit () is used for charging the threshold adjustment capacitor to a desired threshold adjustment voltage. The circuit is used to affect a voltage shift to the voltage applied to the control input. This effectively implements a threshold voltage change by altering the relative voltages on the main transistor gate and the control input.

A system comprises a display () with a substrate () and a carrier (). The display () comprises pixels () and display conductors () which supply display signals (DS) to the pixels (). The carrier () comprises carrier conductors () for carrying input signals (IS). The display conductors () and the carrier conductors () are positioned with respect to each other to obtain capacitors (C) between corresponding ones of the display conductors () and the carrier conductors () to capacitively transfer the input signals (IS) on the carrier conductors () to the display conductors ().

Connecting a display

An identification transponder (IDT) for supplying an identification code to a base station (BS) varies an RF signal transmitted by the base station (BS) in a rhythm that corresponds to the identification code. The identification transponder (IDT) has identification code generation means (IDCG) for generating the identification code, rectifier means (RTF) for AC coupling with the base station (BS) for applying a supply voltage (V) to the identification code generation means (IDCG), a modulation transistor (TM), voltage adaptation means (VADPT) for adapting the voltage levels of the identification code and for supplying the code with adapted voltage levels to a control terminal of the modulation transistor (TM), and further rectifier means (FRTF) for the aforementioned AC coupling to the base station (BS) for applying a separate supply voltage (V) to the voltage adaptation means (VADPT). The modulation transistor (TM) may perform two tasks: the task of rectifying the RF signal, and the task of supplying a variable load to the rectifier means (RTF). The variable load varies in the rhythm. As a consequence, the input current of the rectifier means (RTF) is varied in the rhythm, which in its turn varies the RF signal. This variation in the RF signal is detected in the base station (BS).
